Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Yikes!!! Passenger for how long???

Who knows Kenny. I had lost the fire before TOTM. I just needed a change.

Say it ain't so!

Thanks Chris

Was it the curse or by choice.Just gotta know Mark

Both. More the fact that sooner or later, having too many corals in one tank was its own demise.

What the (*^$&*#! Please tell me this is a joke...no really.

Sorry Dan. Took all the corals and rock out last weekend. I've just been too busy with the Giants to really want to post about it.

Right, you don't have to walk in your garage if you don't want to, who cares? Did you keep your fish?

Basically right now I have a FOWLR. I did remove my mystery wrasse and the last chromis that I had been unable to catch over the last couple of years.

Well good for you man, you've been talking about change for a long time. The hardest part of a project is starting. Can't wait to see what tricks you've got up your sleeve for the next go around.

Damn dude! I think it is time for you to come to the dark side and make it a FOWLR for a while...seeing your tank bare just made me sad :(

Although...I thought I saw "The Machine" in the background there???? LOL!

Congrats on the win brother! Fear the Beard!

Man Mark, That sucks but I do know how you feel. Just this morning I was thinking how nice it would be if i didn't have to revolve my life around my tank...

Then other times I really enjoy it....

Damn Mark. Your tank was an inspiration and something that I measured all other tanks against. I guess the only solace is that we have pictures. I can certainly understand the mixed feelings...being free from the tank is something sounds appealing sometimes but looking at what your husbandry skills have created is also rewarding. It's a very sad day to know that your tank is gone. :sad1: What are your plans if any?

Thanks Justin  I want to stop by and see your tank one of these days.

Wilson was on Leno last night with the machine in the background. "Too much awesome"...

I hear you Ryan. When I still look back at some of the pictures, I'm proud and happy what I accomplished. But then I also remember the "gotta have that" feeling and "never being truly satisfied" thoughts. I just needed some more personal freedom as I've sacraficed a lot of my personal interests unknowingly for a reef tank. After losing all this weight and as Emma gets older, I just want to keep more free time on my schedule to play more soccer while I can and the opportunity to travel without worrying about the tank.

Thanks Dan. It was a great run and I'm extrememly grateful for meeting so many great people like yourself. The tank was always secondary to the people who made the hobby what it was. Thats part of my problem. I do not like some of the aspects of the hobby and my behavioral issues sometimes dominated my perception. Your tank is amazing and you should judge it against your own. My plans are to relax, enjoy life for the little things and who else know what

The last week has been a great week. Being a sports fan is sometimes very tough and it has its ups and downs. But the rewards of a championship when you are a nut like I am has been life fulfilling. I was able to take my Dad who is in part why I am such a Giants fan, my wife Amanda who cheers on the Giants even when I am not in room and my daughter Emma who keeps yelling "Buster" no matter she is, to the championship parade two days ago.

This is really the sad truth. It evolves into the monster that needs your undivided attention on a daily basis.I really haven't been on vacation for 2 years partly because of the tank and partly cause the economy sucked.I need to trim every weekend and change out 20% of the water with my current situation.Huge colonies over shadowing and engulfing the weaker neighbors, constantly adjusting flow to keep everybody happy.Only thing that keeps me in . I do still get a calming fix when I stare into the tank absorbing the color and movement.

Well Mark, yours was one of the best and I hope to see a better one in the near future,If you ever find the "fire" again.GL

In the end it's about what makes you and your family happy. Family and friends are without a doubt #1 and hobbies add a little spice. That being said when hobbies become obsessions (or anchors) and infringe on family and friends then issues emerge. I feel that we have the same "œdefect", never satisfied"¦always thinking that the goal is just within reach but never seem to quite get there. While the defect is great in some situations it can absolutely be hazardous in others. Reefing certainly has its issues, nothing like getting a PM that says "œSaw your picture, have any frags?" ahh how about starting with "œHello" but you're right it's the cool people that I've met here that keeps me going. Cheers to you Mark and remember once a reefer always a reefer. I fully expect to see you hanging around. Perhaps someday you'll get tired of the FOWLR (if that is what you decide to do) and we'll see a build thread for Reef Serenity V2.0. When that time comes (I'm betting it will) I would be happy to give you whatever frags you like.

PS very cool photos enjoy it while you can, we're re-tooling and gonna be coming to get you next year. (I guess one WC win in 56 years is pretty good :wildone: ) Go Dodgers 2011!

You will definitely enjoy your time off. The 2 years I was coral-free were great. Enjoy the great times before the itch brings you right back :)

Thanks Dan. All I know is that for the next year, whenver sportscenter starts, there will be images of the SF Giants as Champions. The previous years all helped in making this one so sweet. My dad was elated when I asked him to go and I even think I saw him shed a tear when we were just standing there before all the crowds really got crazy. Awesome!
