Marlex - reef safe?

Re: Marlex - reef safe?

Marlex is reef safe (it is a plastic) however, IIRC it is not very sturdy and easy to break. I would try to find a way to eliminate the need for the female thread, and use a Mipt x Soc (410-010B and 410-015B)

I am going to use it to connect a bulkhead and strainer as an overflow. Do you think there is much risk on breaking it under these conditions?

Yes. A heck of a lot easier than pvc. You did not ask, however-- an elbow with a strainer will make a horribly inefficient overflow, (in fact it is not an overflow, but rather a drain line) and will provide inadequate surface skimming of the tank. Put the bulkhead inside an overflow box, and a street ell in the bulkhead pointed down, and you got yourself something that will work. How long the overflow is, will determine how well it will work.

Jim
