Just added a maroon clown and long tentacle anemone to our 65 gallon. The clown hasn't begun to host the anemone yet, is this normal? Anyone know how long should it take for him to do so?
I have seen no proof that long tentacle anemones/M. doreensis is a natural host to maroon clowns. It's normal for clowns to be slow moving into anemones that are not their natural host. It is very very very likely that the maroon will move into the anemone in time though. Just be patient.
These are relatively low flow, sand dwelling anemones. That is, if you have M. doreensis. Try digging a hole at the base of a rock, and placing the anemones foot in it. Any way you can post a pic?
As I thought it would, last night the anemone moved to the other end of the tank. He is now between 2 rocks, so I cant get to him to move him.
Ive been doing a lot of reading on anemones this morning and now I think it is bleached! And we thought the bright white colour he was at the lfs was attractive and is why we picked it. Obviously lfs was trying to make a sale!!! But Im sure the anemone will be better off in our tank than at the lfs! I hope we can help it make a come back. Here is the pick from this morning...
I had a pair of maroon clowns and LTA that got along fine. It did take them about a day to get into it though. What color is the LTA? It could be the flash from the camera but it looks bleached in the last pic. If you have not tried it I would dig a little hole in the sand bed where the rock meets the sand and see if it buries it's foot there.
