I think my maroon clowns layed eggs last night. I have two pictures and 3 videos of them interacting with the eggs.

I uploaded the videos to Photobucket, I don't know how to post it here but I'll put a link. Its 20MBs so it might take awhile to load for some people.

I don't know anything about raising the eggs but I am intrested in trying. I'm going to be ording some stuff from marine deopt this week can anyone recommend books on the topic?

Thats really neat, but i thought eggs were redish orange color? I don't think you'll be able to do anything with this batch but maybe with the next one.

They are a pastel clear orange with small whittish/orange spheres in them, the lights are 20000K haldies so it doesn't really show in the picture. I think the video gets the color a little better. Yeah, I dont think I'm going to do anything with this one but hopefully once I set up my new tank (unfortunally its in like a month) they will settle down again.

definately looks like a first nest. If you are interested in raising the fry get Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfishes."

It has the best information for beginners trying to raise clownfish.

All you need to get started are:
1) 5 or 10 gallon tank with blacked out sides
2) heater
3) air pump and line
4) food for the fish
a) live rotifers for the first week or 2 (www.rotifer.com)
b) newly hatched baby brine shrimp (get the eggs from your LFS)
c) dead food to wean them (crushed flake, blended seafood, cyclopeze etc.)
d) selcon or some other food enriching ingredient

Maintaining the live food they must have to live for the first few weeks can be difficult. The guys at rotifer.com have a special dead algae that you can feed the rotifers which will let you get away without having to keep a geenwater culture going.

Expect your eggs to hatch in a little over a week (8-12 days) and keep track of EXACTLY how many days it takes as you'll need to know this to be ready for the next nest when they lay as it should hatch in the same number of days. The eggs will hatch just after dark.

Clownfish typically spawn very regularly. My female clarkii lays 3 days after the nest hatches and the nest hartches on the 8th day.
