Maroon Clown Hook Worms? (Pic)

Via a suggestion in the "new to the hobby" forum I am reposting my question here.

I think my maroon clown may have some sort of hook worms. But they are fast acting as yesterday he didnt have any signs of them. I have had to deal with hook worms in freshwater aquariums and they look simular. Here is a pic.

I am just wondering what kind of paracites they are, how to treat them, and if my cleaner shrimp will take care of them.

test water quality. and buy any commercial treatments you have to. improve water quality as neccesary. i hope your clown is o.k. good luck!

you need to move him to a Quarintine Tank (QT) and don't treat in your display. You can treat with either copper or hyposalinity.

The healthy way would be, no chemicals..

First:. Check your water and stabilize the system.

1)Biological: you can move fish to a QT and add a cleaner shrimp.

OR

2) Physical: lower your specific gravity. Even with most invertebrates, dropping the specific gravity a few thousandths per day to 1.018 to 1.019 will not do permanent damage and may shift the balance of favorable condition toward your fish.

3) Chemical: would be the last option..

This does not mean you have to try this. This is just some info for you..

Thanks

My water quality wasnt the greatest when i put him in and that is probably what caused the outbreak. Since then the water has stableized. I think my cleaner shrimp has fixed him up as the flukes are no longer visible. the bumps are still there where they used to be but my shrimp has been chasing my maroon around for the past couple of days.

I will keep everyone posted. I am thinking of doing a freshwater dip just to be on the safe side. If anyone has some experience on doing a freshwater dip I could you some pointers.

I was going to mention freshwater dip but didn’t. I have done this before and it seems to work for me. If your cleaner shrimp has taken care of the problem, I would not stress the fish with a freshwater dip, unless you have to.
