maroon clown or percula?

So I have had a maroon clown for a few years and he is getting pretty aggressive. He blows sand all over my SPS with his tail and is very territorial with 1/3 of my tank. He is really starting to get on my nerves.

I do like clowns however, so my question is: will a percula become as aggressive as a maroon over time? Will it blow sand all over like he does? Thanks

no they wont...if they do, it will be very minimal. I replaced my GSM pair with a pari of onyx percs and its the best thing i've done for the tank

percs are much more playful anyways

the percs dont act anything like marrons i hated my marrons everytime i did something in y tank near them the female would bit me

I see people make comments like these all the time, but you can't blame an animal for its instinctive behavior. They're being territorial, not malicious. Learn about your pets and how they can be expected to grow and behave *before* you buy them.

I didn't say I blame him, just that he is getting on my nerves. Thank you to those that have given constructive feedback.

My comment did come across kind of snotty--I apologize for that. It can be really frustrating when a fish starts raising hell in your tank.

I've never kept percs, but from what I understand, just about anything is mellower than a maroon--except maybe a tomato or a Clark's. ;)

Personally i believe Percs have the best personality, they always seem so happy and cheerfull. When ever im in the tank they just swim laps around my wrist and hand.

IME, maroons and Clarkiis are the worst at fanning sand around -- the is the reason I sold my 10 year old pair of Clarkiis. My SI Percs haven't done any fanning, and the same goes for my pink skunk pair.

Are you SURE you want to get rid of him? :) Yes, the percs are quite a bit more mellow than the maroons, but the maroons are soooooo pretty. I have maroons, percs, and skunks (each in different tanks of course), and I have to say that they maroon is my favorite to watch (even tho he is one nasty sob)...

He does have a ton of personality, that is why I havent gotten rid of him yet. I bought him over two years ago as the smallest maroon clown I have ever seen. $12 and the size of a fingernail. 3'' now. He is a cool fish just really getting to be more of a pain than he is worth
