I have a six inch maroon clownfish that is about 2 years old in my 72 gallon tank, and is probably a female. Would there be anyway to add another maroon clown, avoiding a fight and possibly a death? I have read that maroons are some of the most aggressive of the clowns, but would like to add one in hopes of a pair forming. Thanks for the help!

WOW. Triple post..........anyways, it probably isnt the best idea as they are really agressive. I have heard of people floating a bag with the fish in it to see if the other will attack. Another thing is putting the new one in a clear container and seeing how the other reacts to the new one. Really I dont think it's a forsure deal one way or the other.

IME, ^^^ you are right. While it can certainly help using clear containers, etc., sometimes it just will not work with some individuals. You can certainly try, but be sure that you arrange it to where the new addition cannot get hurt. Even if all these measures seem to check out ok, you should be prepared in case severe quarrelling starts.

I had a female about the same size as your and i got them to pair up. (took 2 tries)
i used 3 mesh breeder boxes and connected them to make one large one.
put the smaller maroon in there for about 3 days. yes i know, i'm a monster.
let him out for an hour or per day and if your female thinks he's good enough she'll let him stay.
if you notice him doing a spasm like motion when she comes near him - dont freak out. thats a way for him to show her that she is superior.
Took me two tries. No the first one did not die. however she did not accept him and would have killed him. Simply took him backtraded for another and tried again.
