Maroon Clownfish attacking Coral Beauty Angel

My tank has been set up and running for a few weeks with fish in it. I have 2 cleaner shrimp, 3 green chromis, a talbot damsel, a maroon clownfish with a host bta, and as of today I have a coral beauty angel. At first the Clown didn't seem to mind the Angel but it's been a few hours and the clown is constantly hovering around the Angel and occasionally striking at the Angel who is just scared hiding in the corner. I'm not really sure why this is happening since the clown was not bothered by any of the other fish. My only guess should be that the clown feels threatened since they are roughly the same size. For some reason the Angel doesn't want to leave the corner but it doesn't fight back either it sort of just takes it. It's pretty late I just don't want to wake up to the Angel being chewed to hell so I'm open to any ideas.

Lots of things come into play, how big of a tank? What order were the fish added? My bet is Maroon is established and is defending its territory, they are mean little fish, I have never had one kill anything else but they will harass them to no end, you could give it a few days but might be best to just remove the coral beauty

It's a 50 gallon but now that you bring it up it sort of makes sense since the maroon was the last fish added before the coral beauty. I've had a pair of ocellaris for about 10 years now and they always behaved but I always wanted a maroon clown and I finally got one I didn't think this was going to be that problematic. But ya I'll probably end up having to take the coral beauty back id rather it live than be mauled to death. Thanks

Ya I ended up just taking the Angel back to the store. It turns out the angle actually beat up the maroon. His fins are pretty torn up but he still seems to be going strong. Now I'm really hoping his fins can heal.

The other clownfish, if in the same tank, will be killed.

I'd get rid of the maroon. They are one of the most aggressive clowns and in a 50g tank they will pretty much consider the whole thing their territory. I find it very hard to believe that the coral beauty was doing any attacking of the maroon. The maroon will just get bigger and meaner as it ages.

I had to remove an allardi last week cause he was going crazy on my new purple tang. Going with a less aggressive perculas now.

Ya I know there is a lot of mixed feelings about the maroons I've kept the same pair of ocellaris together for about ten years now and they have been awesome fish but something about the maroon I've always just been attracted to and I'm starting to see how nasty these guys can get. My assumption was that the coral beauty was just defending itself the maroon was clearly instigating all of it.

Maroon Clownfish attacking Coral Beauty Angel

Years ago ...even though they made some fish jump out and I could only have perching and crouching fish with them I enjoyed the maroon pair I used to have. The female could spend hours spitting rocks and hermits in my face [emoji16]

She would also bite one of my macaws quite often when he perched on the ledge and put his beak in the water.

I wouldn't recommend having them in smaller than 90-120 gal range even if the tank mates are only bottom dwellers or crouching fish.

Well I really appreciate the responses I have gotten this is my first post and I have already learned quite a bit. This is all still a learning process for me I've been in the marine hobby for about 10 years now but only on the fish end of it and never really stepped out of those boundaries I've been doing this for most of my life now since I'm only 17 years old but now that I have a job I can drain my own wallet on things I want and not have to rely on my mother so I really appreciate the response I got and I am looking forward to the future and expanding into new things. There is nothing wrong with keeping Maroon clown with BTA. They are beautiful fish. However in 40-60 gal tanks you usually cannot keep other fish with a maroon pair. I would keep the Maroon pair but it would not be easy to introduce a male to your female.

I've had bad memories with maroon clown fish but I agree. The tank is to small to have a maroon pair. They're probably the most aggressive in my opinion.
