maroon clownfish eggs hatched

ok, so I noticed this time that the eggs actually hatched. There are hundreds of tiny tadpole looken things all in the tank. This the first time they hatched but many times of them laying eggs, is this a good sign that the tank is doing well? Also, I really don't have time and another tank to place the new ones in so what are the chances they will survive in there with only the maroon's and starfish?

Also, will they survive on marine snow?

Have only read a little about it but I am sure it is a sign your tank is doing well. I would think most of the fry will end up filtered or eaten by corals but circle of life and all that. It would be really cool to raise them though. Dont they eat rotifers when first hatched? I think Cathy used to raise clowns, she could prob offer good advice.

Cathy has raised clowns successfully. However, she is currently cruising the Greek Isles!! Will be home early Monday AM. Walker Huie, who posts here, also raises clowns.

aw ok well I hope one of them answers the following :-)
if I were to get my 29 gal goin again, which crashed on me not sure if the LR is still alive, but how would I go about getting the fry out and place them into the 29g? wish i was on the cruise

That is fairly easy I think. When the tank and room are dark, shine a flash light or something in one of the top corners. The fry will come to the light. Then siphon them our with a turkey baster. I dont think you need LR in the fry tank and prob only need an air stone, no pump running.

I partialy submerge a white mixing bowl and shine a flashlight in it and the little guys swim right in. IMO this method yields fewer loses due to transfer over siphoning them out. Use the water from the parents tank to fill the babys tank.

I just found this thread .... funny ... yep .... Greek Isles are amazing!

i agreee with Walker. Siphoning is too hard on the babies. Better to lure with a flashlight into a bowl and scoop. You need to be ready though with a tank and rotifers. Best bet is to fill the new tank with water from the main tank so there is no shock from the change.

It's too much for a short post. Check out Wilkerson's book on Clownfish and all the instructions you need to raise babies are there. The chances of them making it in the tank they hatched in with Marine Snow are pretty much Nil.

Once they lay eggs, they'll probably do it again. Let us know if you decide to raise that babies and we'll walk you through it. It would be fun to raise Maroons.

Maroons a very challenging to raise my main problem with them is there aggression they start to attack and chase each other from a very early age I have seen them chasing each other around as early as day 8. It's not that hard to get them to make it through the larvea stage its the grow out when I have most of my losses.
