maroon clowns and anemones...

Well I plan to have a pair of maroon clowns in my 55.... I have heard they can be very rough on anemones.... I was interested in getting a BTA down the road..... Would the maroons host it and not kill it?

It all depends... If you can get a large healthy specimin to start with - much lager than your maroon's - then no. But you need to make sure your tank is ready - at least 6 months old (nems don't do well with all changes in a new tank). There is a lot more involved than just will the maroons host it - that's probably why you haven't heard much.

Tell us more about your tank.

Also - if you can - wait 6 months to get the nem - then wait another few for it to grow and really get happy and settled BEFORE you get the maroons. That will help.

oh yeah don't worry I do my research before any of my purchases.... I just wasn't sure what possible damage the anemone could take?

a rough guideline is that the nem's diameter should be 3x the length of the female.

where that comes from i have no idea, but i think the point is to get one large enough the maroon doesnt 'love' it to death.

mine are great :) very happy!

alright thanks... what else could I have in the tank with them? I was wondering if I could have a dwarf lion and a flame angel or anything else around that size that is interesting

Yeah as others have said make sure you get the nem establilished first. Back when I had my gsm I made the mistake of putting her in first and then adding the nem...killed it within a couple of days. I actually had a gsm, fuzzy dwarf lion and a flame angel in my tank, just make sure to find a reef safe flame angel and that the clown and angel are big enough to not become food. Sorry dont have a pic of all 3 together but I got the clown and the flame angel...
