hey guys,

I went to my favorite fish store the other day and they had this kind of anemone for really cheap and they said it was a really easy to care for and doesn't really need much lighting.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what this kind of anemone is and if my 2 TR maroon's would be able to host it. Any tips on getting them to host if so? Should i just place the anemone by where they hide and see what happens?

Any help would be great.

Hard to tell for sure, but it looks like it could be a bleached condylactis anemone.
And no, it will not host your clowns.

The condy has a stronger sting than other nems, and not the most desireable host for your clowns, one reason why they are fairly cheap.
However, I have seen or read where some clowns have accepted them as a host, and maroons are one of the quickest to accept a non natural host, so they might, but hopefully they don't love it to death due to it's smallish size.

dang, i guess it still look nice. I wanted to get an anemone to try and coax the maroons out of that cave rock you see there in the picture. I'll bust out my dslr tomorrow when my lights are on and take a high res pic of the anemone.

I absolutely love my maroons but they hid all day!I can't wait till they get their gold stripes as well. argh, anyone have any tips on coaxing maroons out to swim other than when they feed?

I'm really limited to anemones, thats why when my lfs told me this kind of anemone was a easy one to care for and needs vertually no light, i jumped on it and it was cheap. haha. I think i've read that the most common clownfish hosts are bubble tip anemone's?

PS: i just did some search and i think condy is right. But i read that bleached is not neccessary a good thing? Does this mean that the people actually bleached the thing? Or has it just lost nutrients and whatnot and lost it's color?

Thanks
Eric

condy is an atlantic ocean species clowns reside in the pacific, i have seen some cases and owned a clarks clown that hosted one, but it is very bad for the clown long term as the sting will eventually kill it because it is much more powerful than the hosting anemones.
