Maroon clowns...

Why is my larger maroon clown going after and tearing the fins of the smaller maroon? They were fine at the lfs. Should i seperate them? They are in a 25 gallon with a chromis (soon to be removed).

I have read that maroons are the hardest clowns to pair. Were these sold to you as a pair? I bought a pair about a month ago and i havent had a problem so far.

In a pair it's common for the female to keep the male in check, but I'd be concerned if it's tearing fins.
You could have 2 females.

Let them fight it out for at least 24 hours. do not remove the beaten one unless you firmly believe it will die.

My guess is now that theyre in a new home she wants to reestablish her dominance. things erally should calm down.

I think she was reestablishing her dominance because they are now swimming with eachother. They were not sold as a pair but the smaller one occaisonally shakes at the larger one so i think they are a pair and he is alot smaller than the female.
