Maroun 150g Build Thread

I have skimmed through a lot of this build and loved looking at the pics. You have a beautiful tank! I hope you can figure out what is causing the problems now... that's always so frustrating. Good luck!

hey i just read your whole thread today hehe, very nice job. i really like how you get to go to all kinds of LFS, nice and diverse. BTW great looking tank and i hope you can find the culprit to those recent deaths.

Thanks. Seing all those LFS is interesting for sure but very frustrating to see things that one can't ship back due to weight or size limitation.

Time to revive this thread another time.
Long time no post due to lots of traveling (Egypt, Saudi and currently in spain) with some Vacation in between.
Finally received the replacement boards for my 1 HP Resun chiller. Had struggled with missing water tube connectors that were sent and then had the problem with the temp control board and got a replacement that was a different one and finally received the correct one.

Actually I did receive a complete set that contains all the board in the chiller an additional probe and a remote controller. installed them myself and still have the ones that were installed and were not defective for spare...

unfortunately by the time I got the chiller running I was actually pluggin in my heaters as the water temp is getting close to 78 at night...
still its good that I have one thing more ready for the upgrade and move.

Removed the dead skeletons of the corals that arrived RTNd in shipping. put them in cleach for couple of hours and theyr bright white. guess those and ( hopufully not) others to come will make a nice display in the tank room.

Also got a couple of Zoo frags from a friend these are pics after 2 dyas I got them so now they're opening up much more and I can see a few new polyps.
any idea on their ID.

More updates as I finish editing and uploading pics.

Added a rescued Yellow tang to the tank. It was aquired by a friend who has 2 yellow tangs, 4 hyppos and a sailfin and the yelloe tangs beat it severly and were followed by other tangs. it was allowed to recover in his sump and I got it after it's fins healed. Put it in my tank under actinics and my yellow tang charged at it few times.

DSC_4272.jpg

Next day my yellow tang shows a very ayey yellow started beating it even before the lights were on and nips some of its fins. Things get much worse later on and the old yellow tang shows increasing aggressivity so I decide to take the new one out. I netted it to take it out and weirdly my yellow tang goes in the net to hit it again. so I pull out my old yellow and he spends 5 days in the sump. during this time the new yellow tang a bit smaller than mine gets more used to the tank and eats easily and also seems to be at ease with my hyppo couple and kole tang. after 5 days I return my yellow tang which nowgets charged at by the new yellow a few times and then when he fights back they suddenly start swimming next to each other and they would charge at each other a few times every now and then without touching each other. couple of days later and everything is fine. while an additional tang wasn't planned in my fish list, It is a welcome addition as they are very hard to find here and I was always worried that if mine died I would spend months to find another. also with the coming upgrade the increasing number of tangs shouldn't be as big of a problem.
few days after they're together ni the tank they are both at the feeding clip with no problems:

DSC_4281.jpg

The nice part in this is that the new added tank has a great personality. Usually it takes a new fish some weeks or months to approach my hand when I'm feeding or putting in the nori clip. this tang was literally inside my hand and willing to be petted 4-5 days post addition.

That is an awesome story about your Tangs, and great pictures too Maroun! So cool that they allow you to be so close... watch out that you don't get speared! :0 My tank is a nano, so it is too small for a Tang :( Sorry I can't help you with the Zoo ID, as I don't have any in my tank yet, but they look great. Nice update!

Thanks for the replies. wierdly most of my fish are coming closer to my hand at feeding time and sometimes whenever I'm working in the tank. At feeding time I get to pet most of the tangs which I'm not sure if its a good/bad thing for somer reason...
Luckily no spearing so far.

One last pic of my kole tang cleaning my fingers at feeding time.

as to latest system status, nitrates are doen to 10 -15 will be doing a couple of water changes more and I'm dosing prodibio biodigest and have stopped target feeding my corals for the last month. lost my ORA green birdnest and anothe birdnest, Superman montipora is still light in colour however all other corals are looking great with good growth:
My Red mille alweays in growth mode
DSC_4206.jpg

DSC_4242.jpg

It does look a lot like my ORA red planet with red and green coloration mostly on the base and is growing as fast. however the polyps are a bit different...
This accro grew from a small ligth brown frag I got from cleveland. not sure what it is, veryfast growing and encrusting the rock under it at alarming rate.
DSC_4238.jpg

ORA orgeon blue tort finally tarting to grow a bit and I sometimes do see small polyps on it, it had a lot more polyps on it when I got it in the LFS. also starting to encrust the rock. you can see the growth on the red planet behind it.
DSC_4237.jpg

A shot from above of the ORA red planet to see the growth. the biggest branch on it grew since mid March. wierdly the other branches are not growing at all.
this branc is on the front and its full of white growth so yo udon't get to see the colour of the coral except when looking from above. it encrusted the rock so much that its impossible to turn it.
DSC_4221.jpg

ORA green slimer. lost a part of it that broke and was attached to another plug, did fine for few weeks then just browned out completely and was covered by coraline. this part was the base shows nice polyps, grew branches but they're also loosing colours as you see. it's under medium high light medim flow. would you suggest a location change?

some pics of my acans, they colored up nicely since 2-3 months:

Maroun, Your photography skills are excellent, and the time you have taken here to document your system has been very helpful to me and many others who have taken the time to read/look at it. While I don't have any suggestions for your recent problems, thank you for taking the time to post all of this.

some more pics.
My last added coral, a big green accro (still need an ID on this one too) which in comparison to my corals looks much bigger.
doing graet since it was added with great PE. no signs of growth yet.

some top down shots that I recently took. Still have to get me a top downbox to get better pics but those will do for now:

MAricultured Green Pavona finishsed encrusting it's plug and now starting to get a grip on the rocks:

Time for some Happy updates.

My 2 RBTAs had bleached months ago and lost volume for unknown reasons. Couldn't bring them to regain colours no matter what I fed and how frequently/ unfrequently I fed. two of them bleached and lost volume in different flow and lighting conditions which led me to assume it was a water quality issue. most likely warfare with my green carpet (far in the tank) since starting to change crabon more frequently and using it in a reactor after my Nitrates issues I can clearly tell they are improving.

RBTA 1 after addition:

DSC_8826.jpg

DSC_8882.jpg

started to gradually lose colors and volume and reached this state:

RBTA 2:

Soon after:

DSC_3228.jpg

and after:

DSC_3719.jpg

Down to this and loss fo some volume. during tank move RBTA 1 split into a tiny clone and another one that looked very light pink and RBTA 2 started wondering in the tank after the move and I can't tell where it is actually.
Since recently I can see 2 tiny clones so I'm assuming RBTA 2 also split at some time as I always see the first ans it never split AFAIK. so here they are after they started improving:
Frag from RBTA 2 I asume not really visible:

DSC_4325.jpg

Frag from RBTA 1 now under a montipora that was smaller than the frag plug in Mar, here it is after it fell and broke in half
DSC_4244.jpg

and the RBTA thats improving in color:

DSC_4324.jpg

a bit more closed here:
DSC_4201.jpg

DSC_4200.jpg

Still a long way to get back to the color and size it was hoewver its nice to see something improving in the tank, which probably means that something that was wrong is now OK.

Time for some fish pics.
Although its time for a complete fish list pics, I'm on travel since 10 days and only have on hand a few pics of my clown that I was processing and 1 onf my hyppo tang:

Clown female, had it since 6-7 years since it was a baby male. now it's a female and even bigger than my yellow tangs as in the pics.
Love hate relationship as this fish could start dropping non fixed frags or mother colonies from their positions when it's angry, laying or garding eggs or whenever I epoxy a coral and it can't knock it down anymore... still can't see my tank without it even if it will bite my hand if given the chance...

The happy couple, should be getting some formal portraits of them soon.

One last shot of my coral beauty which is getting those holes around the eyes for some reason. thought it was from getting beated by the clown but the beating has decreased the last months excpet when it insists on going neat its eggs, Also thought it could be from stary voltage so added a probe but there's no change any info on those:

Amazing pics.
Few comments.
-Man you are killing your thread by disappearing for weeks without any posts an then you come back with so many updates that can't be dealt with in one go and some questions get lost within the multitude of updates. still it feels great when the page takes so long to load so I know it's filled with pics.
:bounce1: so keep them coming.
-This chiller is huge isn't it overkill for a 150 G tank? any 400 watt MH in the plans?
-Wasn't it risky to change the electricals yourself?
-Nice story about the tangs, however I wouldn't post a pics with 4-5 tangs in the same tank on the board, you never know tang police could be around. :uzi::uzi::uzi: not that I have anything against multiple tangs in one tank:beer:
-Coral pictures and the growth you're getting are great, I'm really shocked that you're losing other corals at the same time.
-Very happy that the anemones are recovering.
-How long have you had the CB and was it like this when you got it? maybe check in the disease forum if you need to quarantine and medicate.
Finally you mention that you were in Egypt and Spain any LFS or aquarium displays worth visiting there? It would be great if you could post a few pictures of countries you visit. Would love to visit Egypt one day.
Again thanks for the pics and keep them and the updates coming.
