MARS Facebook Group

BAR is also seeing the same thing on our main webpage.

My event threads will get looked at over 2000 times by tons of people but only 8 people will post.

The amount of lurking im seeing is definitely hurting (current members and new members). Its like there are tons of people who come looking for new content but there is no new content because people mainly want to lurk and not post. New members come in and assume the forum has a low member count and low activity but in reality our small events have been bringing in 40 - 50 people regularly.

I made a facebook group for the bay area reefers to have that option available for people that want fb access to something more than Craigslist. Events, activities, store alerts for good deals, etc.

RC in general seems to be a little stagnant lately with the rise of clay-boa and the popularity facebook groups.

Bump

Both the Facebook group and the business page have been fairly busy lately. Hannah is posting daily news topics and there is a fair amount of selling and trading going on.

Still cant beat ReefCentral for discussions and build threads though. Also it has a way way bigger community and better search features.

Group for Buying, Selling, Trading equipment.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this move because I'm probably the last person on the planet not using FB. Over the last year the traffic/activity on this board has really slowed down and it's one of my favorite places to look at on RC.

The Mars and 916 FB groups are setup so that I can't even look at them without a login. I'm thinking the new mars FB group will really draw down the traffic here to nothing.

I hope I'm wrong

I agree, I will continue to be a reefer for many more years but have no plans on ever joining FB.

Respectable decision I understand. I closed my account for several years. Funny that the person you quoted actually came over to the dark side and is on FB now.

I understand not joining FB and that is fine. The MARS forum on RC as a whole has slowed a lot over the past few years and the MARS board has to look out for the club as a whole. We will continue to utilize all tools we have to promote the club RC, Twitter, FB, our home site, instagram, LFS.

The FB has been doing great lately there are a lot of features that RC just dosent have or offer. But the same can be said for FB so really they both have there uses and purpose.

As a club, you have to look at all avenues to help promote the club throughout the Sacramento and outlying areas. You all are doing awesome and please keep up the great work.

I am still planing to attend meetings because I enjoy this hobby. I truly hope that I will continue to see the club grow and prosper though the years to come. :D
