I would love to get a mated clownfish pair... what would be the best way of obtaining one? I have searched the local fish stores and internet with very little luck...

I bought one pair that seemed mated... was hanging out peacefully in the local fish store... but once they got into my tank, the smaller one keeps getting chased away from the anemone and beaten up... will have to return them i guess

This is normal. The female beats up on the male for a little while This is normal for clownfish. give it time. The female is just showing dominance over the male.

It is a little niave to want a pair of clownfish when you don't know how they are supposed to act. Also, the species of clownfish can make a big difference in the behavior you can expect.

Please read the FAQ posting at the top of this forum. There is a lot of good information including how clownfish go through the pairing process. Pairs of clownfish in LFS are more often than not well paired, usually they are simply collected together. This is not a bad thing as spending that much time together will often lead to a pair.

If you are planning on raising the babies get a copy of Joyce W's book 'Clownfishes' it is a great intro to the subject.
