Mated maroon clowns less aggressive than singles towards tankmaktes?

I removed a ~3" maroon single that's rather aggresive towards tankmates from my 50g reef. It was a killer.

Are mated maroons generally less aggressive towards other fish?

In my experience it appers that way,, My friend has a mated pair that do not bother any other fish, but only one case so difficult to say

the female is usually aggressive regardless. It really depends what kind of fish you want to keep with them.

IME the female gets very aggressive once they are a mated pair. This isn't the rule all the time though, it can and does vary.
