mated pair split

I have a pair of mated F.percula's that I have had for about 6 mos. Recently they have stopped swimming together and sleep on opposite sides of the tank (55gal).The larger of the two also seems to be attempting to sleep in a GRBTA that recently moved into its side of the tank. The female also seems to be growing larger recently and eating more, but the male eats very small amounts and tends to be more passive. It almost seems as if the bond is breaking.

Try putting a larger fish into the tank. This will be a possible threat to them and they will likely bond up again. Sooner than later, the male will be less passive if you know what i mean.

NT,

i would not recommend putting another clownfish in. It might also kill one of your mated clowns and you ll lose the pairing completely. i would just leave them alone and keep a close eye on them. The fact that the female is eating more, getting bigger is still a good sign. the male should be more passive. so they dont sleep together, thats ok, give it time.

I don't think David was suggesting putting another clown in the tank, just another, bigger fish. . .like maybe a tang. Perhaps they're just having a little lover's quarrel and the male has been sent to sleep on the couch for a few days. I'm just jealous you were able to pair yours up. My luck with matchmaking for my maroon clowns didn't go so well.

Yeah, I was suggesting maybe a tang or somthing of that nature. Not another clown. I have a pair that did the same thing and I put a powder blue that was about an inch bigger then the female clown and they were back together within seconds. Kinda like Bobby and Whitney...... Only their bigger fish is the police

You don't have to get a huge tang that will Bio load too high. Im sure if they are serious about the hobby that they will be upgrading once they get the itch.

the female goes to the other side of the tank and hangs out during the day now, but chases the male away from the side with the anemone (GBTA), which was once their spawn spot( lotta jerky motions and male defending). the funny part is the anemone doesn't like the clown, and tries to close up away from it. finally the clown wants to host, but the anemone isn't having it.
