Mated Pair?

I would love nothing more than to have a sophisticated seahorse mating tank with the possibility of breeding - but I am not experienced enough yet, nor am I set up for it. Knowing how mates bond, I am wondering is it okay to keep just one seahorse? Will it get depressed or lonely? If it is okay to keep just one, does a male or female do better on their own?

They do much better in pairs. One gets very lonely.

I wouldn't have one on it's own other than for treatment in a hospital tank for limited duration. Even then, I place a mirror close to where it would be hitching so that it MAY feel like it has company.

Get two seahorses of the same sex and when you are ready to try breeding get two of the opposite sex. They will pair off naturally and most likely you will have at least one pair mate in your tank.

It sounds like you want a seahorse species tank which is the best way to go for the beginner.
