hey i just recently purchased a mating pair of Ocellaris clownfish i have no anemone in my tank but i have an Aussie elegance coral 12 inches when fully open in the middle of the 150 RT. Will the clownfish host this coral ? perhaps anyone has any experience with this ? Thanks in advance for any advice/help and happy holidays! :):fun2::fun2::fun2:

They might. I've heard of it happening, and there's more of a chance they will if they've been hosted before. Wild clownfish are accustom to being hosted anemones so there's more or a chance they'll go into a coral if your clownfish are wild caught.

wow i cant belive ths mating pair- photos to follow soon the female is 3 and 1/14 inches and the male is 1 and 1/2 inches. its crazy- the clown fish female is almost as long as my emperor angel and equal to a yellow tank thats 3.5 inches. in legnth.

Percula clownfish are known to be bigger than Ocellaris. Post a picture and I'll be able to tell if they're Percs of Occys by the eyes, or if you can get a really good pic, then I'll be able to tell by the dorsal spines. :)

ill post a pick tomorrow they are ocellaris for sure- i purchased them as a mating pair "false perculas" but Ocellaris female 3.25" make 1.5 "
ill post a pick tomorrow when the lights are on let me know if they look healthy they do look a bit darker but that could be cuz they are old. or mature. it can aslo be they were just added to the tank and went through a very very stressful trip from wisconsin to NY they might be damaged a bit im putting zoe and vitamin C with feedings to bost the immune system after you view the pick let me know what you think and what other foods i can feed that would boost thier immune system.

i feed them pellets formula 1 and 2 flakes f1 and f2 and frozen prepared foods of prime reef by ocean nutrition with garlic and zoe and formula 2 with garlic and zoe and mysis and reef plankton with garlic and zoe all mixed- i feed 1-2 time a day but i vary between foods each day. usually daily dry food and 2-3 times a week frozen prepared foods with sometimes fresh garlic or the little expensive 1 oz bottle with zoe soaked for 10 minutes before feeding them.

just to add its odd with no anemone they stand gaurd on my mushroom florida rocordea 8 inch rock they sorta protect it or they like that spot even though i have a pink leather toadstool mushroom softy coral and a brown leather toadstool coral for them to host and a huge 12+ inch Elegance coral they havent hosted yet. I plan on purchasing a rose BTA soon, what size would be Ok for these big clowns ? I cant find good anemones and with the bad cold winter weather anemones imho dont usually ship well, especially with cold weather and dealys due to high winds and snow.

Actually Amphiprion percula is the smallest species of clownfish

i have in my 150 gallon RT a green BTA but its stuck to the back wall and or a rock in a cave which is odd it was in an ideal spot and moved a day before i got the ocellaris fish in now the ocellaris (tank bred) hang out in the middle of the reef and sometimes 1 of them goes all the way to the top which is odd behavior what would that mean >?
they are eating OK- but have not swimmed into the reef to find the BTA their home, im not sure why also im not sure why the skunk cleaner shrimp hangs out so close to the anemone all the time i would think the anemone would move since the MH lighting is not on the bottom back wall ina cave on a rock so im confused on that i can see it through a cave and its wide open fully yet not on display in the front and im affraid to try and move it, also i cant get the clowns to go in the anemone...why would 1 clown go to the top of the tank and just swim wierdly there ? does that mean its not happy ?

If your clown is being bullied it could explain its behavior. It could also be a short lived habit as clowns do weird things. Typically it is a case of being bullied though, IME. As for your earlier questions, filter what you read as there are some brilliant people on here and some that should watch what they post... Your clowns are going to be much larger than a percula pair. Your clowns will host what they want and they will do so when they want. You cannot force a pair to do anything, just offer them options. As for the coral hosting, yes it happens all of the time, but many times it is detrimental to the coral as the fish rub on the coral and stress it out. Lastly, hosting habits are not affected by wild caught vs tank bred... You should never take a fish out of the wild if you can help it. Wild fish bring in disease, are stressed by tank life, and removing critters from the ocean when avoidable is just bad practice. Support your breeders. ENJOY your clowns they are beautiful and Occ's are some of the most fun fish you will ever own or raise.
