Hi,I now know that this fish is partial to pulsating Xenia.( it has eaten all of it ) I want to add a bubble tip anenome .will he /she eat or nip at it? Please advise.ty

We have 2 matted filefish in our 280 with a lot of SPS, LPS, a few zoas (no Xenia) and about 7 BTA's and they have not bothered anything. It has been about 3 months so not long term results but promising.

Hi,Ty for reply.have your bta 's stung and eaten any of your fish since u had them?i have some chromis, sand sifting gobi,2 clowns, blue tang and c.u.c.also have you had any problems with them getting stuck on the power heads or overflow?ty .

No, they have not bothered any fish or gotten into any powerheads. Most of them have stayed in the same area although one wandered down to the far end of the tank but nowhere near powerheads.

I've had two matted filefish. The first one constantly nipped at my rock flower anemones, so I'm pretty sure she would have nipped at bta's.

The second filefish, currently in my tank, has never once nipped at the nems. She's been hell on wheels on my zoas, though, the pink ones are the only ones she hasn't eaten.

The one we had was fine for along time, but then decided that the bubble coral was too delicious to ignore as well as a specific ORA acropora. It is really fish dependent...

I would not worry about a BTA eating your fish. BTA's have a very very mild sting and only on rare occasions actually eat a fish. usually the fish that does get eating is a sick and dying fish that has no strength. it unusual for any healthy fish to get eaten by a BTA. in the wild BTA's feed on small food particles and the waste excreted by clownfish.

in the home aquarium people feed BTA's chunky foods like fish only to have they grow FASTER and BIGGER. they do not require feedings however.

I have two filefish, one in each tank. However, I would not suggest them with anemones (although neither of mine eat aiptasia) or zoanthids. I have LPS and SPS in each tank with no issues.

Ty for all replies, this filefish wiped out all trace of aiptasia in a month.and my Xenia .but so far hasn't touched the large colony of zoas or my acros and torch .fingers x.althogh my sarcophyton is closed a lot lately,I thought either coral warfare or maybe filefish is pecking at it.but I have never seen it and I'm at home all day every day.
