the plan is a maxi 1200 with a custom mount i am going to fabricate to allow the pump to be above the water level with the intake about 1/2" below the water line. using a 90 degree elbow on the output on which i am attaching the hydorflo. i thought i read somewhere that the maxi jets can be run out of the water. does the maxi's need to be submersed for cooling to the unit itself? i want to keep the 20 watts if heat it produces out of the water column, and the pump itself above the water surface...

if you are worried about the heat i would just get mj900.

I dont think you could run the mj1200 like that.

Water rushing thru the pump will cool it. The heat will still make it into the water. Get a Tunze 6025 Nanostream. Its 7 watts and 3 times the flow.

Something to keep in mind guys--when you mod a PH by putting a larger propeller on it you increase the load on the motor. The mod MJ900 is no longer only 9 watts. R
