Maxi Stream

I just modded my first maxijet 1200, and am surprised at how easy it was, and how well it works. I was skepitcal of the water flow claims, but it puts out more flow than my tunzes. I got the kit from mjmods.com and am happy with it. One improvement could be reducing the vortex created above the shroud, so less bubbles would be produced. The kit comes with a shroud top cover, but it is large and unsightly. I used a larger diameter pipe to cover the top to reduce the bubbles. I can't speak for the longevity of it, but it was worth the time to put it all together. Just thought someone would like to know.

Closing off some of the intake will reduce flow, and, depending on the prop you are using (I'm assuming the Dumas) could cause startup problems.

But yes, these are awesome.

I thought about that, and was willing to accept the reduced flow. I figured that the bubble shroud supplied would reduce flow anyway. I have not had any startup problems, and have not had the prop ( a Dumas ) spin backward yet either. I wouldn't sell my tunzes and fill my tank with them, but it is a good low cost method of getting more flow. Thanks.

MJ Mods sells a strip of acrylic you glue on top of the pump, it does not close the slats. Not sure but that shouldn't restrict flow, just pull it more from the sides? Not that the vortex is a problem, those big bubbles won't hurt anything, but it's annoying.

Me, I sold my tunzes but mine were the less expensive 6060s. The controllable tunzes are an entirely different animal.

send me the link to this. I am looking for a small pump like that to add more flow and also plug into an APC 1000. How many watts do you think mjmod would use? Any concern with the intake portion of the pump? I got rid of ph's for safety of the inhabitants..I have not had a loss since I added the streams.

The Tunze is a powerhead, so if you have those you can certainly have the same dangers with the intake as any powerhead ... more! My Kole tang 3 times got stuck on a 6060.
