Maxijet 1200 in 6g nano too much?

I bought new nano tank today and was wondering if an MJ1200 is too much flow for this size tank.

Thanks.

Yeah probably. I tried one in a 5.5G and it was insane standstorm nearly wrecking everying.

I run 2 400;s in it now instead.

I dont have any sand in there yet.. but I can see that being a problem once I add some in.

What would be the best powerhead for this size tank?

mj900?

no, mj900 and even mj600 are too much. MJ400's like Rosseau said would be my choice, or even less.

I had a mj900 in my old 12 gallon nano and it was a little to much for the tank IMO because I had a sand storm. I agree MJ400 sounds like a better choice. HTH

Heh, yeah BB for life. Well you could get away with more flow with a BB for sure. But remeber that these small tanks deflect flow all over the place, so even a small powerhead can get soem nice circulation going.

But yeah, it's easy to laugh if you're used to 10000G tanks.

I'm using a 200 gph powerhead in a 5.5 without problems or sandstorms. It's actually a bit underpowered. Just split the output or use a spraybar. You get the flow but it's spread out instead of from one point.

a mj1200 would be way to much flow. when i first set up my 5.5g i had a mj900 and it was a sand storm. i removed it and i run a aquaclear 30 150gph refuge mod and it was making my sand dip in the middle untill i put a rock with pink star polyps on the sand to block the flow from doing that.

i got a power sweep in mine...it is a 20 though.....about as much flow as a 400 only it sweeps the flow back and fourth accross the tank

Yeah that makes sense.

This will be a FOWLR tank so the flow is mostly to keep oxygen levels acceptable.

In my 6gal NC I am running 2 Maxi mini 606's (on full) in the 3rd chamber (I drilled an extra hole) and 1 Tunze mini in the tank (under the skimmer), these are all run off a wavemaker. They are never on at the same time because of the sand storm. The 606 is just the right amount of flow for these small tanks plus they put off less heat than the stock pump that came with the tank. The stock pump now mixes water change salt.

Here's how I split the return,

mj400?

lmfao.

I guess I am used to BB tanks with high flow.

Thanks guys.

Mine is BB. An MJ 900 is too much flow.

I recently set up a 5.5 aga with false back, I am running a mj 1200 useing a small ball valve to adjust flow, it is split with two outputs with elbows to change flow direction.

imho i think that the flo wouldnt be the problem its that the 1200 uses 20 watts of power and if you think about it its like having a 20 watt heater in your tank on all the time i had one in my 12 gal aquapod for aboout a week and my temp would not go down 82 degrees and thats with the lights off i think with a 400 you will be fine if not use like two or three mini jets

yes i have two fans on my aquapod as well but its different when you have a 20 watt heater seating in the actual water
