MaxiJet 1200 Pro Propeller Falls Off

Hi,

I have used MaxiJet 1200 power heads for utility pumps all over my aquariums for years and recently ordered a new one and it came with the new Propeller attachment for circulation.

I tried setting it up in that mode in my tank and it worked great and moved a ton of water. However, the first time I powered it down and back up again the propeller cage fell off and the propeller fell out. I tried putting it back together and it did the same thing again.

Has anyone used this pump in this way? Have you had a similar experience?

It seems like a good idea but not if it falls apart.

I have not used the new MJ Pros. I have always just gotten the mod kit. I would take it back if you continue to have a problem.

Hmmm. Perhaps the shift to production in China will manifest itself in a variety of ways. Not good news.

i have the same problem with mine i just put alittle superglue on the housing where it slides into the motor so far i havent lost it

I found a solution to this that I think is a little better than superglue. I got a big black cable tie and wrapped it clear around the pump body and over the flat part of the fan housing. That seems to keep the housing on securely but I can still take the pump apart to clean it or use it as a power head if I need to.

Make sure you use the type of cable tie that is all plastic, some have a little metal in the catch. Also, black ones can hold up under intense lighting, white ones can't.

It sure is disappointing to have to do this though. The manufacturer has gone downhill to need something like this on a product.

That's insane to have to modify a product like this. I'd take them back immediately and complain. I get so tired of poor quality control and design from some of these companies.

I have 3 of these in my tank, and so far I don't have a problem besides the suction cups came loose in the middle of the night anddropped the powerhead in the sand. No real harm done though.

That's every freakin' power head with suction cups I've ever owned. :(

Investing in magnetic holders is worth the money.

Mine at first did this but eventually i just made sure the attachment was jammed on there pretty good.. havent had a problem since =)i have 4 of these guys in my tank.. i think theyre great!

It turned out that my problem was entirely human error on my part. It took a few days, but I received an email from Marineland and they sent me the following picture:

As you can see, the hook from the mounting bracket needs to go over the front plate of the fan housing. I had it under the front plate. Once you see the picture it is totally obvious and I felt pretty stupid.

With the hook in the right place it stays on beautifully.

Mine still manages to fall off every 12 hrs or so after the suction gives out. The pump then spins around until the prop housing gets knocked off. I am currently using it in a salt mixing bucket and I wont be buing another one of these pieces of crap that's for sure.
