so... out of all these maxijet mod kits... sure flow... eco mod... and this GS2... which is the best one ?? I have a 180 gallon reef. right now I have 2 Seio 1100s and I was running a Seio 1500 also but it kept vortexing when I did a hanging mount mod.. the Seios are OK, but they are so big and I hate the huge suction cup hangers...looking for more flow and something that is not so intrusive to the tank... don't want to blow everything completely to heck though. It is a mixed reef right now, will probably add some SPS down the line...sooo which MOd would you all suggest I get...I am leaning towards the GS2... but the regular or the high flow??? And have there been any problems with them???

Thanks!

I ordered 4 Sure Flow from MD for $14.99 each on 10/18 and rec'd them yesterday. After installing 3, 1 was kinda quiet but the other 2 hums every 15-30S for 10-15S and was driving me crazy. It toned down a bit this morning but my wife will kill me soon.

Ordered 8 (60lb) magnets (this crazy hobby cost $38 to buy 8 magnets) from the link D provided (thanks D) last night and wondering is crazy glue okay in saltwater or should I use something else to glue the magnets on the pump?

Mine did the same thing on my 1200. Its been running now for maybe 3-4 weeks, and its ALMOST gotten to the point where its completely silent. It'll hum for a couple of seconds, once every 10-15 mins.

If you want high flow your only option right now is the GS2 anyway. Get the highflow kit, you could always swap out the propeller for a smaller one if you find that it's too much for your tank.

I have been running one for a while now and no problems encountered at all.

just recieved the new high flow sureflow kit to test. I have a 180 gal and orginally had the Seio 1100 where the MJ mod will be replacing.
Setup was really easy and boy what a difference from the Seio 1100. WAY more flow and the ball joint mount coupled with the suregrip really makes this a nice flow device.
No humming and easier on the eyes versus the Seios.

hiper... do you mean the high flow GS2?? so I guess in answer to some of my ??s above this GS2 is pretty good???

I`m one of the ones that had the noise issue with the Sureflow 1600 and maxijet 1200s. Using it on a 900 was no problem and was quite but the 1200 was noisy. After reading the post from northbay-reefer I was able to contact Algae Free about the problem. Within seconds of talking with them they offered to send out some of the new props that would take care of the issue. Great friendly people to work with and customer service that was a pleasure to be given.

Great flow on these and after 2 yrs I have seen some SPS polyp extension increase on some that are in the increased water flow area.

how can you tell if you have the old props or the new ones? i just made my purchase last week and i have that loud chunky noise when the wavemaker kicks in.

No, I got 2 sets of the test model of the Algaefree Sureflow Mod kit-high flow. They are really nice but I do not have any other mods to compare too. Im sure the GS2 High flow is just as good.

Ok so that everyone checking these will not get overly confused here are the mod options:

- Sureflow
- Gulfstream II
- EcoMod

There are some problems with rusting shafts and the rubber end cap disintegrating for the EcoMod though I have never actually used or tested one.

Both GS2 and Sureflow (highflow kit) will put out similar amount of flow and they both work great IMO. The GS2 is the only one available right now that will get you 2000+ gph. Not sure when the new highflow Sureflow kits will be available yet but I was told soon.

What I do like about the GS2 is the ability to swap out propellers if needed. Being a tinkerer/DIY geek, I can never leave anything alone so having this feature is really nice for me.

What I do like with the current Sureflow kit is the ball joint swivel mount. It works well and allow you better options for mounting and aiming the pumps... Kinda like having the Tunze nano mount on a Maxijet.

From what I can tell alll the kits are priced similarly though there is an introductory sale on right now for the GS2 but I was told that prices will increase to match the Sureflow and EcoMod when they are in full production.

how can you tell if you have the old props or the new ones? i just made my purchase last week and i have that loud chunky noise when the wavemaker kicks in.

customer support told me this:

All the modification kits make noise when they restart(that is if they restart in the wrong direction), this is the propeller hitting the stopper to make it turn in the correct direction. The new larger propeller will not eliminate this restart noise.

Thank you,

anyone have input on this?

This is true and a fact of life with these mods. Infact even the Tunze nanos and Korallia will make the same noise as well when the prop spins in reverse.

im confused...why did Phyxius get the newer props sent to him then?

also, is there any way to rig this up or to modify the stopper so that this doesn't happen? it's quite annoying and takes away from the relaxing atmosphere of the tank. i really like the addition of the wavemaker and would like to keep it in the equation

BTW... I know how to make a stopper that will make no noise whatsoever BUT that's another story :)
Oh, you can’t tease like that. You should share!! :)
