i have two mj 900s and looking to add 2 more to my 90 or i was thinking of ditching the 900s and going with 2 seios m820s.

that would either be 4 mj 900s or 2 seios m820s

any coments this is for a 90 gallon

i used to have maxi jets and they werent just working out for my tank. so i decided to switch to some seios and they are much much better.....IMO... My reccomendation would be to get the seios.

I have MJ1200s on my 55g and am looking into getting the seios as they create better flow patterns, more flow, rotate, are fiarly inexpensive, use less outlets than 4 MJs, etc... I have overall heard very good things about them. :)

MJ holdout here. Inexpensive and reliable powerheads that always restart. Aim 'em along the surface towards the opposite side of the aquarium and put 'em on a wavemaker. You can mod 'em to enhance performance (if necessary).

SEIOs give you better flow than MJs. The flow is wide and soft, rather than a direct, harsh jet.

Two 820s or 1100s would work, depending on what you keep.

yeah, I would go bigger than the 820's. I have a pair of 1500's in my 120, and I placed an MJ 900 behind each of my main rock piles down low to help keep stuff blown out of them.

You can chop the nozzle length down on a MJ to create a wider flow. I think flow reversal is very important to stir up detritus. They need to design Seio's that can be placed on a wavemaker. Until they do this, a closed loop is probably a better option than a Seio (IMO).

You are truly comparing apples to oranges. Maxijets move a decent amount of water in a concentrated stream or jet. Seios move much more water but in a widely dispersed pattern. Maxijet 900s are much more energy efficient than 1200s but still draw several times as much as Seios on a per gallon basis. I use MJs for pumping water from one water change bucket to another, blowing stuff off the rocks and tank cleaning but much prefer Seios and my QuietOne 4000/SCWD combo closed loop for water movement in the tank.

I have both in my reef. I really do like the kind of flow that the Seios generate, but I use a MJ1200, too. However, using the MJ with a Hydor flo deflector makes all the difference. It makes the flow in the tank more random and from the polyps on the Pagodas in my reef, I can see that it makes the water movement much more natural.

Have both MJs and SEIOs.. Seios wont wont work with my wavemaker.. a problem if you want to use wavemakers..

Pat...can you check that link, it doesn't seem to work. Hmmmm, seems to be my computer, sorry.
