i have a baby maxima clam 1"-2" its on the sand bed 30" from a 250w 14k phoenix bulb on icecap ballast. The center has started to bleach on me. This clam is next to another same size maxima that is doing great. I also have a squamosa, derasa and crocea and all seem to be doing fine on the sand bed. The squamosa & derase put on almost 1/4 to 1/2" new shell a month. Should i move the bleaching clam up or will that only make it worse? IS it getting to much light or not enough? Thanks for any help/

Is it possible it got stung..or maybe a sand sifter got sand it..both have happened to me and the clam recovered but mine were larger and are croceas..

250 watts are gernerally only good till about 24" deep. Also you are supposed to try to mimic the lighting conditions that the clam was in when you bought it and change slowly if needed. If I were a betting man I would say too little or too much of a change from what it was used to. Maximas and croceas like to be up on rocks and do not prefer to be in the sand bed. I would try to mimic the conditions it was before or try to move it up slowly. Too fast and your sure to kill it as it is already stressed out.

the store it came from had it under vho only. I thought that was maybe why it has started to bleach. I have had it for about 2 months but i am afraid to move it hight if that will make it worse. Maybe i will try a couple inches a week and keep an eye on it!
