Maxima coloring up?

I recently got a small T. Maxima, which was about 8-10 inches from a 150DE (10k coralife). The clam is about an inch and when at the store looked red with small blue stripes. Now itÃ"šÃ‚´s under 250 ABDe 10k, about 24in. away from the light source. The thing is that it seems to be changing its color from a bright red with blue stripes, to a dark brilliant blue (very nice indeed) with small red stripes. DonÃ"šÃ‚´t get me wrong, I like the change, but the thought keeps coming to my mind that they could also change to a duller coloration just as easily.

As always your comments are much appreciated.

Light systems will have some effect on the coloration of the pigment, has to do with the zoanthelle sp concentrations...And I woud guess that coloration might change as clams grow older as well...thats just me guessing though...

May be a stupid comment, but don't forget how drastically clams change due to viewing angles. A blue clam can be brilliant purple when viewed form above, etc.

Clams under brighter light or higher radiation will produce more colorful uv inhibition pigments to prevent tissue or algal damage, this is what causes the color in clams.

Clams will always change there colors with new lighting. I just got a new Crocea and it was under VHO's before. I have it under my Halide now and it is getting bluer every day.
