Maxima or Crocea

Hi, I got this clam from my LFS, they told me it was a crocea but I think its a gold teardrop maxima. I just need somebody to confirm it. Its about 4-5 inches and I purchased it for $35. Good deal regardless right?

That first one sure looks like a teardrop to me. I agree that $35 is a total steal, around here it would be double that at least.

Second one - I can't tell that easily between crocea and maxima, maybe someone else can. Nice looking clam though.

You need to show better picture of the scoots on the shell of the second clam for some one to give an accurate id.

second one is a crocea as for first grade, i don't know. generally they call them fist grade when they have that electric blue coloring.

Yea I had some hermits that got to him the night I put him in and eat him. Needless to say I had tiny little hermit crab cakes for luch the next day. Just a warning, this hermits had white stripes running the hole length of their legs. Since I have gotten rid of them I have had no problems.

It really is hard to tell without a side view of the shell, crocea and maxima shells are shaped differently. That first one sure looks like a teardrop...what a great score. Congrats .
