maxima question

I have a nice max in my tank that is constantly secreting this brown "turd" stringy stuff out of the clams exhalent. For some reason my small hippo tang loves to eat it....
Anyone know what it is? Is it normal?
Thanks

Could be the clam is expelling (excess?) zooxanthellae as it adjusts to the level of light being provided.

it's been in my tank for 7 months and is doing well. I noticed it expelling more when I feed DT's routinely. I usually feed the tank DT's once or twice a week, but the weeks when I feed more I notice more expelling.
The brown stringy stuff really sticks out of the clam for a while. The clam doesn't "expell" it with exertion.
Any thoughts?

that's pretty interesting. The clam is directly under 2 250 MH and it doesn't really open as much as the other clams in my tank. Is it getting too much light? Is that possible?
Can I do anything or just leave it be?
Thanks!!

The brown stringy stuff is the waste after feeding the clam. The fact that you are feeding the clam, your clam will produce the waste and when you stop feeding, it wont. IMO, its nothing to worry about, its just the normal excretion of wastes from the clam after feeding.

I hate the glass aquarium it change the color of the clams that clam is charcoal black loocking from the top of the tank.
