MaxiMod build

I think I am impatient but I went ahead and crafted my first mod tonight. There are more parts than you use but it depends on the style you are building for the prop assembly.

I took the Maxi magnet and drilled all the plastic out of it...a 3/16" bit works perfect for the carbon fiber sleeve. The fit allows some room for glue to secure it. The same is true of the prop, it is loose and superglue fills the gap perfectly. I used the stainless steel rod and it was a perfect fit.

Here is the finished prop assembly.

The shroud is machined in a very rough fashion leaving a lot of excess plastic which needs to be removed. Sandpaper works well.

Here is the shroud as it arrived...nice job on the cutting, very precise but the excess plastic needs to come off.

This is the shroud after it has been de-burred and cleand up a little. It isn't perfect but that is ok too as long as you get the plastic off so it doesn't come off in the tank.

This is as far as I have got tonight, the shroud and prop are glued and as soon as the instructions are available I will put the prop stop on and test it.

Happy Modding!!

Jack, kind of concerned about how you have what looks to be a quarter inch of the tube past the propeller. This might keep the thing from hitting the acrylic rod kicking it the right way to spin.

That is how he did it on the video but that video is old and they never got to the stopper. If the stopper won't go in I can adjust the carbon fiber sleeve but it looks like the stopper will still go in the shroud. Time will tell...having the instructions would have made it so much easier.

He told me earlier today they would be up tonight...I feel for him, he as rebuilt the whole website today.

Jack I will post pics and directions on the SLASH website forum here in a bit. I can answer questions there as well as describe what I did. I was wanting to accomplish this never found the time. But, just for you to help you out. :D

It'll still work. You just may have to place the stopper a little further from the end so that it can still make contact.

I have those...they are not the latest ones. The product has been developed a lot recently. I am not in a hurry anymore, I know Snarky is hard at work as I have checked his site several times since yesterday and it has come an amazingly long ways from nothing.

i did the sam thing with my seio parts.

In a 48 inch tank or longer, the Medium mod is weak sauce. High flow is the way to go!!!

i like better than seios, because they are smaller than the 1100's and put out more flow than the 1100's.

these things are awsome!!! they work so much better than ghetto rigging it yourself!!!

I got bored tonight and worked in the high flow kit...one improvement I made was to make a washer for the top of the tube. I did this by carefully cutting the tip off the old prop assembly. I didn't like how the top of the rod assembly was loose on the shaft so I made my own top piece and it spins perfectly now with no rattles. I used the clear rod on this one and I think it works better.

Here is the almost finished product...I still need to smooth out the superglue as it is uneven but you get the idea.

I tried something similar using a piece of the old impeller to tighten up the top of the rod assembly. It ended up breaking off on me so I just used a lighter to tighten it. Don't know how reliable it will be but I have been running it for about a month now.

I chose the end of the original assembly because ti was the right size and hard enough to last. I like your idea though.
