Maxspect Gyre at Macna?

Did anyone get a chance to check out the new Maxspect Gyre at Macna? The promo videos they have been putting out look pretty impressive but some firsthand eyeballs are always preferable!

I played with the one at Reef H2O booth. I believe it was the smallest model they will make. Really nice surface agitation and under tow. They had some sinking ping pong like balls in the tank to show the current it created. What I liked most about it was the gentle output. Not at all torrid like a MP40, or tune. Seems like the corals could grow right up to the device. JP

This is probably the first "toy" to come out that I've actually been really interested and cautiously excited about. The idea behind it is great and it promises to produce the kind of flow I want in my tank.

Maxspect had the larger one in their booth, as you likely know. It certainly seemed to move a lot of water, albeit in a nearly empty tank. It's going to take me a while to get past the curling iron look, though.

A member on another forum I'm on has a beta in his 300g peninsula and he's thoroughly impressed with it.

It seemed to have quite a bit of under tow. Over all pretty cool but he only had a prototype for the controller, he better get busy if they're coming out in a month.

Ha! I know, it reminds me of old curlers from my mom's day. I do wonder if they will make a black model and the clear is just for demonstration or if they intend to sell it that way.

I was impressed. They stated the middle model had created a sand storm when the put it in an 8' tank on 100%. (although they didn't say how deep or tall the tank was)

I'm not bothered be the look. It's pretty unobtrusive in the tank - it's maybe 1.5" diameter, so it doesn't stick out I side like a Koralia, and the magnet on the outside is really flat.

IMHO it looks a lot nicer in person - especially the black over the clear.

This looks interesting. Curious on different models and price. USINGTHEJOHN does that other member only have one on his tank? Just curious if one could push enough water for 6 feet

It's been updated to black from the clear already.

Oh good. I haven't seen a photo of it black yet. I'll have to google it to find one.

Okay...it looks a lot better, but still something like hair curlers.

To my understanding, he only has 1 Gyre on his tank. As to what model it is (lower/middle/higher) its the lower dual bar. I don't know tank dimensions, other than it's a 300gal and he said in his thread that it pushes water across the entire tank (its a peninsula, so from the overflow to the opposite corner). I don't know at what strength it's running.

His flow setup is as such:
**BETA** maxspect gyre on overflow side

opposite of those are 2 MP60s.

He already said that it sold him on it, and he plans on buying one when its released.

Ha ha, yeah it's weird looking. It's pretty low profile though, I'd imagine on most tanks you could hide it pretty well, it can also be turned sideways and put in a corner.

I honestly want one of these things. I think the same motion can be created with two vortechs but why used to when one Geyer will work?

I currently have an mp60 and an mp40. Picking up another mp40 Friday. How would you place them to generate the same flow?

Damn I wish I could pull off curlers like that....

Most of the demo videos don't seem to have any rock work in the tank, just those floating balls. Its great they can get that current effect with no obstacles, but I want to see what happens when a couple of boulders get tossed in.

We were given one at MACNA as part of their beta testing. It will be setup on Friday if any of you want to see it in action.
