Maxspect Gyre

I got a maxspect Gyre 230 with controller. I was hoping for more of a wave effect than it has in pulse mode. Anyone got any tips on how to achieve that? Buying the second head for the other side of the tank and run them alternating is what I'm thinking. But the one has plenty of flow for my tank so i don't really want to buy the other head just to make myself happy watching my corals bounce back and forth. The corals don't NEED it.

Also what is the SD card slot on the controller for? I can't find anything in the manual about it.

question number 3. If i get a smaller head for the other side. Like the 150. Will it still be compatible with the controller i have?

The gyres don't really achieve the same thing as a wavemaker would, IME. I have a 150, so I'm not sure what the SD card on the new ones is for (Maybe for firmware updates?) The old 100 series also won't work with the new controller. You'd need another 250 or 230.

The key to getting the gyre to wave right is getting the forward and reverse on the proper schedule. The settings I have gives a really nice 2" back and forth wave.

What settings are you using?

You have to adjust the pulse length based on hour long your tank is. I have the 150 on a standard 180 and I can create waves larger than I'd want. However, I choose to keep mine on constant mode. Acro colonies seem to grow better with that.

I have a 36" wide 65g. The problem I have is you can only control the amount of time it's on. Not how long it's off between pulses. So the pulses don't have time to get back before the next one is coming. So it ends up being the same flow as constant would be. One pulse runs right into the next.

The old ones will work with the new controller, but they must be the same size.
130 and 230 work together and are same size
150 and 250 work together and are same size
280 isn't compatible with either the 130 or 150

My next question is does anyone have a link to a simple DIY wave box that I could attempt?

I've got a 250 on my 220 gallon. I'm also contemplating buying the second pump. It seems like if I turn it up past 40% it just rocks my softies to death. I'm thinking i can get more flow back and forth with a second one without turning up the maximum power.

Anyone have recommendations on settings? I have mine setup to do 10s ramp up, 10s top and 10s bottom. -40% to 40%

That's Good news. When the 2xx models first came out, I could've sworn I read that the 1xx and 2xx pumps were not interchangeable (Even same size.)

If I turn mine past 30% it's like a hurricane in my tank. Although I do turn it up for 1 minute each day to stir up detritus.
