Maxspect has come out with a great offer for Maxspect G2 owners

Well I when a head and did the offer . I didn't have to ship the old ones back at all I had to email Chris the serial numbers . If I like them I will sell my sol blues if not I will sell the maxspect.

Today I finally received the 160 Watt Razor (10000K). When I read this post I thought "Damn, that was really bad timing". But that thought just lasted a few of seconds. When I read the amount that I would still need to pay, I was happy again. I would never trade my G2-160 for that kind of discount.

I love the G2. I have it running for more than 3 years without any led replacement. The blues are half as bright as they were 3 years ago, but they still balance the white leds very well, at least for my taste.

When I turned the Razor over the tank today I was more than pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the whites. Amazing. Love it beyond words.

But I was also unpleasantly surprised by the shimmer. It looks terribly artificial on the sand, with the different colors making it look like a dancefloor. When I look at the ceiling I have the feeling I am about to be abducted by aliens.

The G2 has a shimmer that I can only compare with MH.

The light intensity is surpringly close between the 2 fixtures. I think the main reason for this is that the Razor's tank top mount puts it much higher above the water.

The Razor is much more blue with both channels at 100% but that's something I don't really apreciate, I don't like the tank to look like a health clinic.

My G2 is currently over my Tanganyika tank and I couldn't be happier about it. The shimmer in the tank and in the ceiling are priceless. IMO Maxspect has been the most progressive brand in the aquarium led business. The 30 watt leds on the G2 were a great idea that shouldn't be abandonned and the inclusion of those warm whites in the Razor instead of red leds was very clever. I can only imagine what kind of shimmer the other brands produce with all those different colors. I have never seen it, but I suspect it must look much worse than the Razor.

I must say I am really happy with both fixtures.
