Maxspect LED owners!!!

hello everyone
first of all i like said hi to all Maxspect fella and you all did great job to create this thread thanks, i found a lot of helpful question and answer here.i just got mine couple days here is pictures of my tank and units with custom hanging bracket let me know what you think, don't worry just slap me with your idea.

Hi Bluetang,

What units did you go with?

Bluetang.. great set up nice looking custom work..
one thing, Does that ballast say 59C.. that seems quite high.. I've never seen mine go above 44C typically around 35C.. yesterday when i came home from work my house was at 85 degrees and only up to 44. Might want to keep an eye on that

Maxspect fan question

Maxspect fan question

Hi, I just purchased two G1-110 W and a G1-160 W from someone who claimed the old G1 fans where repaced by the more silent ones.
Turns out that the 160 W had the old noisy fans, really too much noise, but the 110 W had much more silent fans. To be more specific the Delta EFB0812HHB, 12V , 0.40 A, 41 dB, which are OK.

But on the Maxspect site they show and promote the "Super Silent Cooling Fans System with new frameless fans", these are not the ones I have, these have larger blades and indeed no frame.
So now there are 3 types of fans in use ? The old very noisy ones, the Delta's I have in part and then the latest frameless one's ???

Now my question is, can I still improve on the noise level by buying those frameless fans, and if so any idea where to ask.

If not anyone any sugestions where to buy two more Delta's (EFB0812HHB),
because I'm still 2 fans short.

Since my tank is in the living room, any noise reduction is important.

I needed to turn to Reef Central with this question because over here in Belgium LED's are still totally unknown, we are clearly way behind the US.
All the people I know with reef tanks over here, no one has LED lighting or knows anything about it. So I would dearly appreciate some US input.

Anyway, since Reef Central is the mother of all Reef forums, if I can't find the info here I won't find it, period.

I snapped a few photos when I received the package earlier this week. For those of you who haven't had time to browse through the previous pages, I switched out the G1-110w to a G2-160w (with 30w LEDs), these suckers are BRIGHT!

As you can see the tank is super dirty, so I don't have a FTS until I get around to cleaning the back and right panel of the tank. Corals look a little bland now, because they've been under the E-Lite during the transition, but I'm fairly confident that they'll color in a little more with the replacement fixture.

Also, if you note the "dimmer" LEDs from the reflection, these are the "VIOLET" LEDs that MAXSPECT is now including in the fixtures. Please be aware though, that I swapped some of the bulbs out, so I have more blues and violets than a normal unit would have. I think I switched out a total of 6 whites and replaced them with 4 violets and 2 blues. So, I have more "blue" in the fixture than the standard version.

I get the best of both worlds (20K and 12-14K) with the way I have the timers set up now. When the white 30w comes on, I get a good 12-14K coloration, when they're off... I'm left with a 20K style look. I love it :)

Interesting, when I tested the violets, they produced almost no output at all compared to the blues, well in the visible spectrum anyways, especially with the 30w units on. I removed all of the violets on mine and replaced them with blues & it helped drastically.

Looks like a new circuit board revision as it has red mask rather than green. Also I notice the white 3w are running a voltage regulator now? Interesting. Wonder if they are knocking them down a bit so the fixture has better color with the 30W lights on. Also looks like the moon lights have dedicated solder pads now rather than a scratched trace *LOL*

I have a 30g cube that I am running now and will probably break it down when I upgrade to a 57g illuminata. The 30g cube is about 20 inches deep and the illuminata is 21 inches deep. The LEDs would go from the 30g cube to the 57g depending on if I like them (sounds like I will).

Should I go with the G2 110 or G2 160? The 30g is mixed right now but the 57 will have more sps than lps. If I got the 110 would I have to buy another when I upgrade? Would 1 G2 160w cover the 57g (36x18x21)?

I will say this, I can definately see a difference in the G2 cooling fans because they are twice the size of mine. And I see the new max-s leds in the pics and I wonder why they are doing that.

Also how many of you have been changing the violets to blue? I dont see the purpose for them especially on larger tanks.

Welcome to RC! You are correct, it seems like MAXSPECT went through three phases of fans. The very first lot of the G1 model seemed to have "noisy" fans as reported by some users. Shortly after, Maxspect released an updated G1 model with quieter fans. Some of us members on RC have that model. I myself had that model for 3-4 months and can confirm that it is indeed quiet and faint. The G2's that followed the G1's had further updates to the fans, and they opted to switch out the "double-fan" system with a single larger bracketless fan (blade only). If you are unhappy with the noise levels of the fans on your G1-160w, talk to Maxspect to see if they can somehow send you the silent versions that were included in the updated G1's. If that doesn't work out, you can always opt to go 3rd party and find a compatible fan within the same specs but with a lower decibel level to suit your needs. Good luck.

Interesting, when I tested the violets, they produced almost no output at all compared to the blues, well in the visible spectrum anyways, especially with the 30w units on. I removed all of the violets on mine and replaced them with blues & it helped drastically.

You're right, the violets are pretty pathetic when compared to the blues. I'm only keeping LPS/Softies in my tank, with the exception of a few easy to keep SPS (Monti caps, Birdsnest), so I'm not too concerned about light output. I didn't swap any blues out, I primarily swapped the whites out to help adjust the color I'm getting when the 30w whites are on. I've been hearing that people are saying the 30w make the light output look "yellow", but from what I've seen so far it doesn't. It does however make the fixture look more 10K-ish. With the replacement of some of my 3w White LEDs to the blue/violet versions, I've gotten it balanced pretty nicely to the color temp I want it to be at. I get full actinic with blues on, then ~20K look with my "mixed" channel of mostly whites with some blue/violet, and a ~12K look when the 30w LEDs kick on. I'm very happy with the setup thus far, lets me experience the different ranges of color without having to pick and choose.

(Actinics) Blue/Violet -- ON for 8 hours
(Mixed) White with some B/V -- ON for 6 hours
(Whites) 30w Whites -- ON for 2 hours

And yea, the moonlights are a nice touch, being actually soldered in cleanly in their dedicated position. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the G2, and the experience with customer service was better than I was expecting. Let's just hope this fixture will last longer than my previous one! :D

I've read that the Version 2.0 G2-160W "provides Stable Timer and Fan controller".

My interpretation is that the stable timer may be refering to that problem. I wonder if the fan controller will allow the fans to adjust their speed to the temperature.

I ordered mine a month ago and I haven't recieved it yet, so I think I will be recieving this version.

@ Garage about changing Leds

@ Garage about changing Leds

First of all thanks a lot for your advice regarding changing my blue leds.
I tried it out with one of my 110 's, and it works, now I have one 110 with all white leds. And I'm going to do the same with my second 110 and the 160also.
As a result I'll have about 50 blue Leds I don't need, but will have to get as much white one's.

I'm not sure this is the right place to make this proposal (moderator forgive me if I'm transgressing some protocol here) but would anybody be interested to either send me white Leds in exchange for my blue one's. Or just buy all or a part of my blue Leds from me for a nice but reasonable price. They are as good as new, used maybe for a few hours, not even a whole day.

I'm asking because I notices several reefkeepers wanting to do the reverse and putting in more blue. Well as the romans said "Degustibus et coloribus non disputandum est" and right they where :hmm5:

And I'm still looking for two Delta fans Model EFB0812HHB to replace the older noisy ones in one of the 110 W.

Quick question for you led heads! :)

Setting up a Solana this coming week, would the 60w version be enough for zoas and some LPS, no SPS?

Thanks!

Brad

I would go with a 160W unit or a 110W. I have personally put one of my 160w units over a LFS Solana tank and it was amazing looking!

Tank 79"x39"x28"

Tank 79"x39"x28"

Hi all.

Im doing a 370g with a hight of 28", and im considering Maxpect for some power saving reasons and not to mention heat. And at the same time the G2V seem to give you more options regarding the visual light specter you desire.

Is there any one in here that have any experience with using Maxpect on tanks higher then 28"?
For this tank i assess the need of this light option to about 4 800x180x45 to fill the lenght and width 79"x39"x28"
Any comments on that sort of light settup is appreciated.

Regards
Tage
