Maxspect LED owners!!!

Because my LED light is inside the canopy, I need to vent the warm air out. I built this panel using two PC fans. The panel covers the opening where my old 250W MH used to sit. The noise from the pc fans is louder than the fan noise from the LED fixture. But the pump noise drowns out all fan noise. Fan noise is not a problem for me.

The 36" T5 in the front is to add more blue to the color

The top of my canopy looks a lot cleaner compared to this old arrangement with MH fixtures.

Door to door shipping. Shipped friday from China and arrived Monday eve at my house. No, I didn't do the group buy. I order them myself direct.

Mine took six days from the time it left HK to my door step. Most of the time was held up in Customs! Looks like yours didn't stop at Customs or just flew pass them:)

Just curious, what temperature do you see on your controller when all lights are on for your unit? Mine went up to around 39C (102F). That is the heatsink temp. I wonder how hot the LED actually got and what will be a dangerous temp for LEDs before rapid degradation happens?

can you guys with no canopys PLEASE post pictures of how they are mounted. I have a rimless with no canopy and the overall look is obviously important and the only thing holding me back

Thanks again gambitcobra!

Garage,
What are your tank dims? Can you measure the cords from the unit to the controller please?
-Thanks

I ordered a G2-160W for my tank, but I'm expecting mixed results.

I have a 27 x 20 x 20 tank and my previous fixture included a 150W 10000K HQI, 2 x 39 W T5 Actinics and moonlights.

The T5 actinics flooded the tank with a blue light and their shadows were very soft. Overall they create a blue environment light that reaches almost every corner of the tank. It's a bit like skylight.

The 150W HQI is the equivalent of the sun, with strong well defined shadows and the famous shimmer effect. I always kept the fixture just 2 or 3 inches above water, so the shimmer was very strong.

This combination creates a richness of colours in the tank. The shadows of the HQI end up having a different colour than the lit areas.

I'm not expecting the leds to be able to do this with this fixture, unless I turn off the 3W white leds.

This would leave the blue leds scattered (equivalent of the T5 actinics) and just 2 x 30W white leds (equivalent of the 150W HQI 10000K).

The 3W white leds, being scattered, destroy this richness.

On the other hand, I never really appreciated the blue looking tanks, lit by 140000 or 20000K lamps, so I'm counting that I'll like the overall colour provided by this fixture will all lights on.

I once bought a 7 days diving package in the Red Sea and ended up snorkelling most of the times, because I liked the colour much more near the surface.

The G2-180 is already for sale anywhere?

Shaunt,
I found this picture from another post. At least it shows you how the hanging system works. The hanging wires comes with it as well as the hardware.

The wires are coated with some rubberized plastic to prevent corrosion and the hardware seems to be made out of brass. To use the hanging system, you remove four screws from each corner and replaced with the hanging hardware. Garage had a good picture on page 2.

Hope this helps!

Here is mine, just hanging where the pfo pendants used to hang. Worked perfect. Will get a better photo soon.

Tank is a standard 90G 48w x 18d x 25t. Power supplies are in a cabinet directly next to the tank and I do not have 2" of cable to spare or the power supplies would have to sit on the back of the tank which would look cool, but be less than desirable.

Mine got up to 40C..... I guess they are suppose to have an alarm at 60c and turn off automatically at 70C. As for degradation, your guess is as good as mine.

Well as to the time on my power supply still was not working. I contacted fish street and they got back to me in a short amount of time with some suggestions. I did not get a chance to try them since i left them unplugged when i got home and plugged them in it was working fine, go figure. They suggested checking the cables and that probably was it but i don't know for sure. They were really fast to get back to me though.
***DISCLAIMER****
Since i only took these photos with an Iphone they do not really show what the tank looks like. The light look way better in person.

you can see a hermit doing god knows what in the middle of gsp.

A picture of the side of the tank where it is darker but not bad at all.

A full tank shot on the phone looks horrid so i will not post it as it really has no indication of how it really looks. If i can find a camera i will take pictures later.

I bought two of the G2170's only put 1 on my 90g tank (regular dimensions) so i knew it would be a little darker on the sides. I plan on upgrading to a six foot tank within the next two months so i bought two.

For those that have swapped out some of the LED's for CREE's, can you comment on the difficulty of getting the circuit board out of the frame, as well as which model of CREED LED you used (XP-G, XP-E). Also, do you think optics could be mounted?

Ycore, I have not done any swapping of LED yet. Just looking at this picture it can be done fairly easily. You remove the side cover plate and slide the acrylic splash guard out, then remove a few small screws that hold the reflector to the circuit board. Once the reflector is removed you can access all LEDs and wirings.

This is my little Tank with G2-110 mounted on...

Anyone know how type of leds are used for the moonlight??

Another question: Can I replace the semileds with every type of 3W's led or more wattage?

I'm thinking of doing a cadlights 50g rimless with the 160w g2 on it, araman what size tank do you have there? How long have you had the fixture ?

I swear I have seen that on another forum and basically plan to copy the entire build haha ! The aqua-roche rocks are wicked. I plan on doing something very similiar only barebottom. In a 24" cube the cadlights seems to not be able to be beat on price right now and Eddie is great. Thanks for the pic!

Garage, Thanks!

Ycore,
NICE setup! Can you post some pics of your mounting hardware & specifically, how you attached the Maxspect unit.
