Since I have optics on all bulbs I raised it up to about 12 inches above the water level. Gonna see how that works since no one has answered.
 
my tank is 24 inches deep and i am running with optics , the unit i left it 4.5 inch from the water surface. is it ok ?

It depends on your definition of quiet.
My 2x 160w g2s are the loudest part of my setup. I love them but passive cooling would make me love them more.
If you have other loud equipment running then I would say they are whisper quiet. Then again there is nothing more annoying than someone whispering in the background.
 
I now have my light 10 inches above the water and I have cut back the 30w's to 5 hours a day. Everything is starting to look a lot better and I am getting better growth now.
 
I need to raise mine, but they are in a canopy. As far as the noise, never heard mine so I couldn't tell you how much they make...
 
I'm currently setting up a 93 gallon cube. The dimensions are 30" x 30" x 24". I want to use LED's to light the aquarium. My problem is the lights will have to be mounted directly on the aquarium which Maxspect seems to eliminate with the rail system. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to the Maxspect unit to use? Also how many units would I need and what size? I plan to have a mixed reef with SPS at the top down to mushrooms on the bottom. Any info would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
 
Wow, none of you maxspect owners are specualting about the new maxspect mazarra yet?! Those bad boys look like they will be expensive but fix a lot of the short comings of the previous versions.
 
I am surprised too, but more so from maxspect's website and the lack of any information regarding the new setup. I wonder if the pictures from aquarama are of a different prototype model and not the G3.
 
As far as I understand, those that were on display and used at Aquarama were working prototype. Maxspect rep would not sold me what was available, citing the need to make more refinement to the sets. I firmly believe the G3 might be replaced by the Mazarra but there's a niggling feeling the G3 would be kind of a base model while the Mazarra is a premium product. 1st time owner might just brush aside the cost of owning the Mazarra but upgrader from the G series might feel a hell of a pinch on the wallet. I would want to own a few set myself.
 
Anyone know of a retailer or online dealer in the US that currently is stocking MAxspect G2s they sound like a great light for a nano and would like to see them in action. Only a couple of online dealers have mentioned them or have it as a DIY kit most say out of stock and nothing on an arrival time anytime soon.
 
thats one of the biggest problems with these chinese LED lights...theres no where to check them out in person. I live near Boston and I dotn know of 1 store that stocks or operates maxspect however I know of atleast 3 that display AI units. Maybe its different in Cali but for a huge market like the North East youd think that a company would want to have it on display...poor marketing plan. I contacted fish street about this and got some BS response and that was 1 of the main reasons I went AI...that and the customer service. Buying from an American company and having the service company here was big.
 
If I'm not mistaken, the only US maxspect importer/distributer is Fin's Reef out of Shelby, NC. Brian and Eric are both very great guys, but sometimes they have a lot on their plate. Not sure where you live JGIB22, but I'm pretty sure thats the only option other than going to someone's house that already has them up.
 
My feelings exactly i keep seeing their new products featured on reef builders and in the forums but no where to see these machines. Not sure why LED's frighten me more than the proven technologies I have used like T5's and Halides. There are so many options when it comes to LED lights and color choices. There are also these promises that if you pay more it lasts longer. The larger companies claim the lights will function for 5 to 10 years with no loss or interruptions but they only come with a 30 day or one year warranty. My dishwasher came with a five year and cost only a fraction of what an LED light costs.
I might drive up to Shelby and see if they got any on display.
 
Hi all,

I am considering buying a G2-400-160W unit for my 57-gallon tank. I have just looked at the Fish Street web site and realised that the led chips need to be replaced periodically.

Has any of you changed any chips yet? I would be interested to know if there is any data showing the depreciation of the ligth intensity over a period of time.

You do not need to change out the led periodically. I changed mine just to get some cree and reds into it only. Of course fish street wants you to change so they can make more money I led sales.

I was at the Aquarama 2011 too and asked the Maxspect rep about the Mazarra, and whether it's the G3.

They told me they're moving away from the G2/G3 naming (they didn't say but I think that means their product cycle is no longer linear??), and the Mazarra shown in the show is pretty much the finished product except there'll be some rough spots and glitches that need to be refined.

In the brochure it said it's got:

Wireless controller that controls up to 16 LED modules (even though the rep said 8, the brochure said 16, donno which one is final), fully programmable and dimmerable with 8 "Time Points" per channel, 4 channels in total - to let the user program their photoperiod profile.

The 4 channels will be using Cree XM-L's, Philips Luxeon Rebel's and Bridgelux chips, wow.

There'll also be a dawn/dusk mode (running lamp effect), weather mode (to simulate the effect of clouds casting shadows over the ocean), and more.

Frankly I can't wait to get my hands on one set when it's available!
