May be a comeback

Afternoon everyone...It's been a year now that my wife and I decided to step away from the hobby. However, we have the itch again to possibly get back into it.

Have there been any big changes in the last year? New discoveries on the care of corals? Anything special we need to be aware of if we do decide to take the plunge again? We have not visited the boards in a year nor paid much attention to the hobby at all. It was hard to step away with all the hard work we put in. Even more difficult to try and keep up knowing what we had. Oh well.

Of course, if we do make the choice to return, Rod will be our go to guy.

The plan would be to probably repeat the same tank we had before. 120g with a custom 40g breeder for sump, oceans motions 4 way off the dart, pendant 250w halides, reef filler for the evap, salt water mixing container and some other goodies.

Anyway, this is something we are discussing, just not 100% decided yet.

Thanks,

T&E

Hey Todd. A year? More like 8mos.

Not much has changed in 8mos my friend, except that many of us are mangling our needlewheel skimmer impellers, so if you go the needlewheel skimmer route you might want to read up on that.

Close enough to a year for us.....Seems a lot longer though.

I will probably do another ASM skimmer...will probably do the G4 from what I remember about it. We still have some researching to do of course. I think out of all the skimmers we did use then...which were many, the ASM was by far the best.

Check out the Octopus Skimmers they beat ASM in crafstmanship and performance. I like the Recirc model they offer, I ran ASM but like the Octo better check it out. There is a thread on RC about them.

If I had it to do again, I'm not 100% sure I'd go ASM. I'd probably go Octopus or Orca.

Check with ykh on your tank. Not sure if he is using your tank unless he sold it.

He never got it up and running?

We also used the Reefkeeper electronic control unit. Think that was the name...Anyone else using these? New model? We plan to price this stuff and look at what the budget will be and go from there this weekend.

look what the cat dragged back!.. Yo Todd! The reefkeeper 2 is pretty nice. The firmware can be upgraded, and just reciently someone posted a software link too.

Welcome back!

Stupid Cats...LOL Hey brother. How's things? Been awhile. I have driven by your place on my way out to Waterman a couple times, but you were closed.

If E and I make the choice to come back, you will be getting the list of equipment needs. I think the first animal choice on the list will be your Onyx clowns once everything is settled in and ready. She really misses those guys as do I. We were looking threw some pics a few weeks back and saw them, which prompted the urge to do it again.

Are you in today????

the guy that got your clowns says they are spawning regularly. I am hearing of quite a few people that got clowns at the same time you did, say that their clowns are spawning.

Waterman? to the MX track? I heard that there was a kid paralized there a week or so ago.

yeah, Ill be around today

welcome back todd. i get back from afghanistan and find out you left the hobby. good to see ya man.

That's cool. Glad they are doing well. We did get the best of the bunch I believe when we got them. :)

Yes to the MX track...I heard that same thing about the young kid. Hae not heard what happened exactly, but it wasn't pretty.

What's up Todd!....hope to see ya hangin around Rod's again!!! and nice to see someone that left come back!!!

Hey Tony. My wife just said...We are not officially back yet Todd...don't go getting all excited with this just yet. :) Party pooper...LOL

We have a lot to consider before we do it again, but are very interested in coming back. I ride motocross and am gone weekly for races. Too cold to race this weekend so I took it off. She is not sure she can handle or wants to handle the responsibility by herself when I am gone. We may end up doing a cube or something similar to what Rod has his purple anemone in with the clowns. Not a surger per say, but something more manageable for her. Still a lot up in the air, but we are very interested in returning.
