Well sounds like we have a plan now. So where is everyone else? I know they should be on for the weekend, come on people let's hear your ideas or input on these please?

i think that taking the summer off is probably a good idea from a parents point of view. its gonna get crazy in my household this summer. i also think that meetings should probably be every few months to give time for planning and such. anything thats rushed usually doesnt work out from my experience. maybe a compromise would be good for the ones that would like a meeting monthly. we could have a main meeting every three months where we do a demo of some sort. with hands on learning, really liked the demo shawn put on where we actually got to frag something ourselves, now im not afraid to chop things up, and in between we could maybe meet at a house as an informal meeting or something. just a get together to get to know the local reefers and plan the main meeting with tossing around possible ideas. but someone has got to step up and offer to host the mini meetings in their homes or that idea wont work for long. what ever is decided i will go along and attend as much as possible. i really would love to see us having meetings on a regular basis ....so remember... we are a newborn club with baby steps at first and then we can hopefully grow to have the membership to be able to have monthly meetings. now i am off to perform my coral beautys funeral.

also i am good with what ever date you guys chose for the meeting in May. but there isnt the option to chose every three months but its got two options for the monthly..:lol:

that is exactly the type of stuff we could be discussing at these "mini" meetings, kind of like a signs and symptoms type deal

Yea, it would be nice to, there are so many misconceptions about Ich and other diseases its ridiculous!
Being in a retail environment, and constantly interacting with hobbiests, you wouldnt BELIEVE the stuff I hear!

Alot of good ideas being brought up!
But, I will be the first to say that I am not a fan of the quarterly thing. A meeting does not have to have frag swaps, demos, speakers or anything else. In my opinion a meeting is when a "group" (read as two or more) of people get together somewhere and discuss aquarium related stuff (and maybe even not aquarium related stuff).
As I stated earlier, If someone has to miss a quarterly meeting it will be 6 MONTHS before they would be able TO HAVE A CHANCE to attend another meeting.
I was not able to make it to the last meeting because life got in the way. I had asked off of work and even had the car gassed up and ready to go the morning of. BUT it just so happend that things beyond my control prevented me from attending. So on the quarterly system it would be six months before the next meeting. On the monthly meeting it would just be 4 weeks! I am not going to be able to make it to every single meeting but on the monthly meeting system my odds are alot better.
I do like jrthomas's idea about having "mini meetings" at someones house or restuarant monthly and having a "big fancy meeting" at a LFS quarterly. It is sorta the best of both worlds.
Just throwin my .02 out there.

im with RINER....i have been parts of many HOBBY clubs and when the meetings are spaced out so far interest dies or people forget...i also stated the negatives about quartly meetings probably 6 months or so again about the last meeting that no one showed up too....so again my suggestion is a "BIG" lfs meeting quarterly and mini meetings in between

The more I read, and the more I think about it, I'm in agreement with Mini Meetings might be a fun idea.
I'm about to start the ZeoVit Method and completely erase everything I have every learned about Nutrient control! LOL!
Ive been researching Zeo for the past 2 years and I have finally convinced myself to take the plunge and become a ZeoHead!

May Meeting is a possibility...

The ONLY concern I have with the may meeting is that not all of our members are so acquainted with this forum.
So a lot of our fellow hobbyists don't even know about this discussion going on.. so how are we to get the word out?

I think, at the next BIG MEETING I will give a bit of a speech or, should I say, tour of Reef Central and let everyone know exactly how to become more involved in these meeting decisions. There are tons of people who have no idea what Reef Central is, much less how to go about view updates, or even putting their own 2 cents in. It would help this club and hobbyists in this area to become more acquainted with this forum.

That is a great idea! The easier it is to comunicate with the club the easier it will be to get a meeting together, and just helping each other with our addiction... I mean hobby!
On another note.... I finally got my house here in Tuscumbia rented out and we will hopefully be moved down to the area in a month or two. My wife will be attending JSU to finish up her secondary edu degree, and my brother will be going for Music education. And I will be working... the Wife and I will be coming down tommorrow to apply for jobs and look at a few more apartments. Sooo, if any body knows of anybody that is hiring , let me know! The sooner I can get a job, the sooner we can move!

someone could make a flyer and put in a store about current discussions on reef central about a MAY EARS meeting...ask SHAWN for instruction on how to become part of the group!!

it would be nice to have one in Valley Tropical and Aqua escapes since most of the people live in that area and will more than likely be the stores that host the BIG ONES

also dont forget we still have aqua pets on 431 that would probably like to host a meeting. the owner showed an interest in hosting a meeting awhile back. he was suposed to be relocating next door into the bigger building the last time i stopped in to talk to him but its been awhile so i dont know if he ever got moved over. any body been in there lately. maybe if anyones in the area they can drop in and see if he is still interested in a future hosting. and maybe drop off a flyer for him to let people that come in there to know there is a local reef club.
and about the flyer we should design one that tells about the club and also directs them to check it out on reef central. that would also kill two birds with one stone. letting people know about the club and reefcentral at the same time.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Life is busy, oh well. Aqua Pets moved to a smaller section of the store, we could still meet there but it might get crowded. It's getting close to the end of the month, are we on for May or not? I think the mini-meetings are a great idea, we just need to keep on keeping on.
Hopefully nobody had any damage from the storm last night. My aunt called and said that the Dental clinic in Heflin where my wife works got hit last night.

Hey everybody,
Let me start by saying I am about a yr into the hobby and I am consumed by it!! I mean everyday I do something for at least an hour or more on the internet with aquariums, coral, fragging, and reef central related stuff. As much as I am involved I have not attended any meetings as of yet, but not because I havent wanted to. I was planning on attending the last at Aqua Escapes but I had a Tball ball game that I was coaching.
I will say that in my opinion I am the perfect reason why you wouldnt wanna have monthly meetings. I am located in Moody but Im not that far away so it would be nothing for me to attend however, in Jan I was gonna drive over for the meeting but didnt. I didnt have anything major going on but I just thought to myself " I will catch the next one". So I think what would happen is that if you have 20 people like me coming to every 4th meeting ....thats only 5 per meeting. And Im sure that would be enjoyable for the 5 who showed but wouldnt you rather have meetings with 15-20 people?
I also like the idea of having diff things going on with meetings.... for example 1st quarter you have a frag swap and 2nd quarter maybe a fragging demo, 3rd quarter maybe a speaker, and the 4th have a big one with all of the above??? And we all know that even if you arent having a frag swap specifically....people will still have threads with things for sale or trade at all meetings
I would say the mini meetings would be great and tougher for me to attend but i would try and catch a few here and there.

that is the beautiful thing about having the mini meetings...you dont have to be at all of them where as with the quarterly if you miss one, you will have plans to come to the next but forget about it and make other plans....with the mini meetings you can miss 1 one month and make it to the next with out really missing a beat and not put a lot of pressure on those that drive further than most to HAVE TO BE at the meeting in a kinda be there or be left out situation

well I am new here, never been to a meeting, because of work, if you guys happen to have one of these meetings in the later part of the day, say 5 or 6 I would love to come.
