Maybe a ballast problem with my lights?

As noted in the subject line, i have a 36" 192 Watt Coralife with the dual 10K and the actinic blub. When i switch on one of the lights, the fans come on and the bulb lights up as it is supposed to. With the other one, i get nothing, no fans, no lights, nothing.

Does that basically mean that that ballast is wasted and i need to get a new unit? Does anybody have any thoughts? My buddy who helps out with maintance thinks it may just need to air out. I have the entire unit sitting directly on top of the tank, i don't have the legs on it. Do you think that could be part of the problem?

Help.

Thanks,

Don

The first thing to do is switch the bulbs around to make sure the bulbs are good. If so, use a volt meter to see if any current is comming from the ballast. If no current, then the ballast has failed. Some have internal fuses. You could call coralife to see if they can repair it or replace under warranty.

Check the switch operation. Even if the ballast is bad you should still get power to the fans. Sounds like a bad switch. maybe loose connection or burned out switch.
