Maybe a poll maybe not- zoa/paly size

ok, so the poll options would be limitless for now but I'm interested in seeing what size you consider micro or small, medium, large zoas. For palys, please don't include them in the zoa size. I want to see what everyone thinks is a short, medium, and long skirt as well. PLEASE POST PICS IF YOU HAVE THEM!

I'll start. I don't have palys so I'll only do zoas.

Micro/small- I would consider something like eagle eyes micro and also, they have a short skirt IMO. So, the size of a #2 pencil eraser or smaller

Medium- Green Bay Packers- also with a short skirt. double the size of a micro/small IMO

Large with very short skirt: 1.5 times the size of micro
Lunar eclipse type thingys.

Large with long skirt
Devils armor

Please post, I'd love your thoughts and pictures!

sweet. My camera phone would never get such detail.

1). EAGLE EYES I would say are a medium zoa with medium skirts. Micro zoas would be something like paradise zoas...they are really tiny.

2)GREEN BAY PACKERS- I would also say another medium zoa and medium skirt.

3)LUNARS- I would say this are a large zoa with short (compared to disc) skirts.

4) DEVILS ARMOR - I would say these are a large zoa with long skirts as well.

I will post some pics up later Mallorie but they are not as good as yours haha.

What does everyone else say?

Green bay packers are larger than the eagle eyes so I couldn't qualify them as small IMO. Maybe eagle eyes would be small and green bay medium with micro being separate from small?

Some zoas will be bigger in size depending on which tank they are in. For example, I have some lunars in my tank that are about the size of a dime and the person I got them from has the same polyps that are the size of quarters. Just thought I'd throw it out there for you all.

very true Jarred. Lighting can affect the size of polyp. I guess we can say overall sizes?

Regarding Jarred's point, let’s say some one has some zoas in a 75 with 4 - 65W PC's, and another person with a "frag" of the same zoas in another 75 with 2 - 250W MH's. Would the zoas in the MH tank be bigger? Or vice-versa?

TIA

Ted

I would think the zoas in the tank with the MH would be smaller since they don't need as much surface area to photosynthesize.

^+1. the guy I got my lunars from runs a halide (not sure of the wattage) and I am running 48w of LEDs on a 20 high. Also not only does light play a major roll but I am also guessing that flow does too. The more flow would IMO make them not be as big if they got less flow.

hmmm, I don't really know how much flow effects size. I did move a few of my zoas to higher flow areas and I haven't seen any decrease in size. But then again, I haven't been watching for it. lol.

If you think those eagle eyes are small, you have not seen any micro zoas. Check out the paradise zoas (gorgeous yet tiny) and other micros. I also have other ones that are in between the micros and the eagle eyes.

First off Go Gators my Gainesville friend.

for Micro I would say true radioactive dragoneyes are micro the yellow and orange ones.

small agree witht the Green bays, also jokers

medium- I would say lunars, cats eyes ect

Large- agree with AOG.

Are you on Gainesvillereefclub?

Hi Paul! I'm not in the reef club. Is it fun? What do you usually do at meetings and what does the club do? I'm on the GRC website. What corals are you keeping?

reefclubs are fun. I may join a second one here in Los Angeles pretty soon. Lots of good peeps and cheap/free corals. It is like being on here but in person haha. You should have a club section in the forums on here in your area.
