Hey all, I've got a 125 with soft coral, and I've got a 6 x 96 watt PC fixture I got from jbruken. It's been nice lighting, except for having to replace a couple of ballasts, but when I picked it up... Jason had his beautiful new 14000k metal halides in. I've wanted something simlilar ever since.

I want that look. I like the shimmer, which I know you're only going to get from metal halides or LED banks. But I like the color too. I saw that there's some T5 fixtures that can get close if you get a mix of 12000k and 18000k bulbs, no shimmer, but still looks real nice.

So I start shopping around at metal halide and T5 fixtures, it looks like both are going to run me around $800 +/-.

Keeping in mind I've only got soft coral (and maybe soon some LPS like frogspawn), is it overkill to have a 3 150 watt halide setup or what would be needed for for T5's to keep what I have?

thanks for any advice

Man I am no expert but I think you could put together some MH's yourself for alot less then $800. If you are going to do it, bigger is always better. I have never heard complain that they wish they had less light.
