Maze Brain Questions

Ive made a few threads on this because Im still trying to figure out if I have a maze brain, or something else. But I was wondering when you touch a maze brain is it hard or soft? Mine is hard. And how often do the tentacles come out? Because Ive never seen this guy put out any tentacles. And even when I feed it small pieces of mysis shrimp, it doesnt put out any tentacles it just eats the shrimp with one of its mouths.

well to answer your question is going to be tough without a pic, but here goes. If it is a maze brain it would be soft. Next question is why are you touching it? You could be irritating it, and thats why it's not puffed up. What kind of flow, and lighting is it under? Try feeding it cyclopeeze. That should encourage it to eat heartier foods.

I touched it accidently. It is on a small rock that fell onto the sand because it got knocked over by a hermit crab I have. So when I picked it up I accidetly touched it, and I figured I would keep in mind that it is hard when you touch it. For flow I have maxi jets and power filters. I have it under nova extreme T5s.

On many of my brain corals, I don't see tentacles unless all lights (including moonlights) are off. You could try checking late at night to see if you can spot any tentacles.

Of course, a picture would really help out.

what size tank. What other stock? How old is the tank? Sorry for all the questions, but just trying to help without a pic. ...

No, I have a pic, its just not a good one. Ive posted the pic before, and I was just asking these questions to try and determin myself. I have a 20 gallon high. No other livestock except for other coral (shrooms, kenya tree, frogspawn, pagoda cup coral, candy canes). The tank has been set up for about 3 months.

I have maxi jets and power filters for flow. Are you saying that the kenya tree is some how making it not show its tentacles? How so?

leathers are very toxic to most other corals. Unless you are running copious amounts of carbon it could be a problem. I also see you only had your tank up for three months. That could also be a problem. What are your nitrates, and PO4? Tissue looks good. As long as it's not receaded I wouldn't stress too much. What have you tried feeding it?

I actually wasnt worried at all haha. My readings are good, trates are at 0. Ive fed it small pieces of mysis shrimp. I put a couple pieces on top of the coral, and through the mouths he starts eating it. But no tentacles come out. Im just trying to ID this guy.
