Maze brain??

I got this coral from a local reefer who was breaking his tank down. He actually got it from the baltimore aquarium. It was in bad shape when I bought it but has made a nice recovery. Actually its grown about two inches in diameter in the 5 months that ive had it. He told me maze brain but after seeing all the maze brains in the showoff thread here in the lps forum im not so sure. It sprouts new polyps like crazy but the skeleton underneath takes a significantly longer time to catch up. What do you guys think it is? Its about 7" in diameter now.

Looks like a Platygyra aka maze brain to me.

What kind of lighting are you keeping it under? Are you feeding it?

Its under 8x54 watt t5 ho lighting. I only target feed it once a week using coral smoothie. Thanks for the ID

Here's mine

The tentacles or whatever they where came out on spots where fauna marin LPS pellets landed on it... Got it cheap cheap cheap from a local LFS after the tissue started receding on it.

Thats exactly how mine looked when I got it. Tissue had receeded from the skeleton and the polyps were not fluffy but flat against the skeleton. It made a nice recovery and is very fluffy now. The feeder tentacles you see coming out are out in mass quantity everytime I feed my tank lol it looks pretty cool

Cool if you get a chance get a pic of it when feeding would love to see it! Hope mine gets to where yours is.

wow thats huge. And my Platygyra looks almost the same. Mine never gets that "Fluffy" tho. I keep it on the bottom of my 55g with 150w MH. Tagging along to learn more about it.
