Very undemanding coral IME. Moderate lighting and flow. I would place it on the sand bed first and see how it does. Whenever your hands are in the tank, pick the coral up and then set it back on the sand. You don't want the edges to get buried. Rotating it every now & then will also be good for the coral. GL.
I used to feed every week with Two Little Fishies brand "zoplan". But as time has gone on, and I've gotten lazy, I haven't really fed it much. And it hasn't slowed down growing!
If you want to feed, it won't do it any harm, as with most LPS. Just make sure it's some type of meaty food.
I have one. I think they are generally mundane growth rates, yet strikingly awesome coloring. Kind of a catch 22. I feed mine mysis, cyclopeeze, reef roids etc., with both pumps off. I get good sweepers at night. Mid tank. Under 3W LEDs
Parameters seem cool. (pH is a little high though. Mag?) I'm not really sure if your lights are burning it up, but you might want to give it some shade for awhile. (2 weeks) See if it responds. GL.
well ive been giving it shade but still not the best ...im seeing more algae around the edges ..it has plenty of flow too..so im wondering if i should put it up higher ..maybe needs more light..any other info so i dont lose this further...
how long is your photo period and what's your phosphate at? these were the two biggest issues when i had struggling brain corals. Mine thrived when i dropped PO4 to .05 and dropped the photo period to 8 hours with only 4 hours at max power with a 6 bulb t-5 on a 75g tank.
If you have algae growing at the edges there is definitely nutrients (most likely PO4) in the water and probably higher than you want.
Maze brain has been the poorest condition Lps for me. Acans, chalices, favia, leptastrea, cyphastrea, frogspawn, hammer, Duncan, candy cane all look great and grow well. Maze brain just refuses to thrive
I have the same problem with my Australian platygyra. IT was healthy 2 year a go but has slowly receded on one side. usually gets some dark algae over the top that when blown off reveals dead tissue... bottom of a 150 with good led lighting and moderate flow. mag, ph, kh, and calcium all in check. All my other corals are happy as clams... (sorry cant resist) kind of perplexed on this one tho..
