Mazzei Injector Protein Skimmer

Performance! I think the photos mostly speak for themselves. This thing definately performs much better than I expected.

Keep in mind, the skimmer is only powered by a single Mag 5 pump. Not a lot of pump to get this kinda skimming performance!!

Design details available?

Hi littleprince,
Isn't the output a little wet?.....a lot of water will be lost.
Also..are there pics of the injector assemble in detail so we can see it.

Thanks,

FL Bob

Actualy, I had originaly set the water where I thought it should be when I was planning it out. After about 1 min I knew it would be too high and lowered it a few inches. Came back a few minutes later and it was overflowing, so I lowered it about 10 inches. Which is part of the reason why I have so much overflow.
I'm seresiouly considering adding about a 6" extension to it. Its just performing much better than I could've imagined.

The injector is just a Mazzei. If you email them they can recommend you an injector based on your pump curves (available at reefs.org)
I believe Mazzei's site is www.mazzeiinjector.com or something like that.

What model mazzei did you use for the Venturi using the 500 Mag? The 784, 684? 484a? Please show some more pictures of your results, I just got my 784 today and it works great using a Dolphin 650... l

Mazzei's are awesome. Nice consistant bubble sizes. Very little adjustments. Minimal cleaning needed. The becketts are cheaper. but like you said, the pump size required to get some good bubbles is not cost effective. I wonder if they were'nt first used in skimmers as a cheap alternative to the Mazzei.

I used the 584. Thats the one Mazzei recommended me based on the pump curve and my application. Apparently enough of us have been bugging them that they know what a protein skimmer is.

I agree the Mazzei is awesome. The bubbles are beautiful.

I built a skimmer years ago using a 3/4" Mazzei. Basically a knock off a MTC skimmer at the time. Reaction chamber is 6" x 36", I use a march ac4 pump to power the venturi and a mag 7 for feed. The entire reaction chamber is always a beautiful wall of tiny bubbles. As said before the Mazzei rocks.

3/4" Mazzei is just the Thread size...there are over 18 different INTERNAL designs that mazzei makes. It appears that there are about 4 different models that will work with our low PSI pumps.

Anyone that tried a Mazzei and it didnt work, didn't do their homework and match pump to proper Mazzei. You just cant order a 3/4" Mazzei and expect it to work since its a 3/4" as apposed to a 1"

I am working with Richard at Mazzei to create a pump list which matches the proper Mazzei. I will be working with them on the west coast it appears as the skimmer contact guy out here, Since im only about 40 min away they like that idea.

So many of you will be directed to me in the near future for skimmer questions/ordering when you call mazzei. You can PM me with questions in the future when it is official.

Due to some of my recents Mazzei posts and others too they are getting a lot of calls and dont want to handle them...and also add to the fact Beckett is basically dead in the water, Mazzei is becoming the only choice for high output low maintenance skimmers using Venturi injectors

They are pricey but worth it. Quiet operation and Very fine maintenance free bubbles.

I'll second that.
Very fine bubbles, and actualy very silent for the amount of air their pulling in.
The other thing I noticed is the turnover. I've got tons of water flowing through with the Mag 5, doesnt seem like its cutting back flow too much.
The only downside is that you SHOULD match the injector to your pump, so if I wanted to try a different pump like a pressure rated pump I'd probaly have to pick up a different Mazzei.

maybe, maybe not. Usually as long as you go UP in PSI I bet your safe. I would get a new pump and try it if you went way bigger from say 500 GPH to a 1200 GPH maybe. I would still try it you might find it works.!

I love them

hmm, so what model works w/ a mag 500?

anyone have one for a mag 300?

i wouldn't mine trying to make a HOT venturi.

also how much did you pay??

I use a mag 5, so Mazzei told me to use a 584 or 548 C, I went with the 584 coz it had 3/4" threaded fittings and I thought would allow more flow, although probaly really little difference.

Contact PasReef I guess, or Mazzei directly with the pump curve diagram off of reefs.org and they'll recommend the right injector for you!!

I paid about 110 Cdn. But I've seen them in the US for about 40 i think....

Life reef sells them... Dunno about pricing since I just picked it up localy. Didn't shop around too much online in the States.

ir330s - cool thanks for the reply i will check out your email you sent me.

also i have found them online at some farm supply places and a few other places

I think a lot more ppl should try out the Mazzei's.
On large pumps that their using for their becketts I bet a properly sized Mazzei would perform very well.
