Ok, so I'm not a complete noob but have a question. I currently have a 40B w/sump. Been running about 6 months or so. It was previously a 20L w/out sump. When I upgraded to the 40 I stupidly put in 1/2 in drain pipes, while they work, the flow is way to low to be effective. I'm about to move the tank and just want to go sumpless with it. My question then I guess is regarding detritus. Do I need some sort of HOB filter? In it's current setup, I have a skimmer in the sump, and I still get detritus build up in the sump and areas in the main tank and I have fairly high flow.
