I've been doing some reading on Malachite green, formalin, and other chemicals that we use as treatments for our fish. Seems like many of these are highly toxic, cancer-causing agents (especially malachite green). While the warnings on the packaging for this medication don't have any suggestions about wearing gloves etc when handling, is this something we should be doing? I have a few fish in a quarantine tank at this moment, and I have to work with my hands in the water, touch equipment that was placed in the water, etc.
Do I need to be concerned about the toxicity of these chemicals being absorbed through my skin when coming into contact with water and pieces of equipment that have been exposed to it?
Also, I assume rinsing the equipment with fresh water will not remove the potential toxicity in the plastics etc, once exposed to the chemical?
Thanks!
