Mediterranean Moray?

So someone brought in this moray that they bought at another store and it ate a few of their wrasses. The original store they bought it from wouldn't refund them, so they came to us and we bought it. It was sold to them as an Emperor Moray, whatever that is.

Looking through fishbase, it appears that it might be a Mediterranean Moray, Muraena helena, but I was hoping someone could confirm that for me. I know it's not a full body pic, but I didn't think to take a pic until he was in the tank, and I thought I'd leave him be. His pattern is the same along his body.

So am I right?

How big is it right now? Can you try to get more of a full body pic? It's not a chain link or Mediterranean . The head shape and pattern is diferent and the eye color is usually lighter but I know I have seen similar morays quite a few years ago that came in as assorted.

Hahaha..ummm..well, yeah. Look at that dude. He has "I eat things" written all over him. I doubt live rock is safe with him/her.

I'll try and get a full body shot tomorrow. It's fairly small still, maybe 15". He's a brute though, attacks through the glass at anything that moves. I'm actually afraid to sell him to someone. :) Not sure if he'd be safe with anything.

Send him to me, it will fit right in with the 26 I have already.

Now thats FUNNY...

So I forgot my camera today, so cell phone pics are all I have. He definitely did not like having his rocks removed for the pics.

The best pics I could get considering the circumstances.

These photos look somewhat different from the first photo. The latest photos of the body look more like a jeweled moray, but the first photo showing the head does not look like a jeweled moray. Either way, its a nice eel.

I won't forget my camera today and I'll get some better pictures. Regardless of what species it is, it's gorgeous. I just don't feel good selling something I know nothing about. For all I know this might turn into a 6-7 foot beast, that can devour the largest of triggers, the spiniest of puffers. ;) Not likely, I know, but it is a possibility. I hope the new pics I get today are more definitive. Until then.

I have a jeweled and a small green moray with fish that can be easily eaten including a stingray. They do not bother anything. I keep them well fed and they know the routine.

Gymnothorax eurostus could be right and would be nice at a two foot maximum size. Here's some pics from today.

This first pic is with the flash on so you can see his markings better, he is not this red.

These next two are without the flash, so you can see his true color.
