Always wanted a chaetodon mitratus :) Cute little bugger for sure!

Pics are of him acclimating before entering QT. Ate both PE and hikari mysis within minutes. Prettty funny watching him suck down PE mysis that are almost half his own body length  He is very bold, and doesn't shy away from me, even when he was in the acclimation container!

She is beautiful!
How big, 2 inches?
I look forward to more pics and watching her grow!

Best of luck!

Thank you! 2" at best including tail. So far my experience with my declivis and the little tink hybrid is that these butterflies grow SLOWLY....

Nice Peter - A welcome addition for sure! Maybe he can teach my melannotus a thing or 2 about eating ... LOL

Beautiful fish :inlove: love the colors
Seem like they are collected very often recently cos my local lfs are bring them in this past week after a very long dry spell...

Nice fish, I hope it fits in well with the rest of your herd. They have always been on my short list, but i've been concerned about keeping one with my Semilarvatus. He actually has quite the attitude.

p.s., how do you post pictures in these threads. The only pictures I can post are from my phone and are usually pretty bad quality. Do you just link to photobucket?

Just use the [ img] code link from photobucket.

Unfortunately my semilarvatus is frankly on the short list of possible evictions. He keeps my fasciatus corralled and likely caused the demise of a small/timid falcula. He pays no attention to the declivis or the tink hybrid, so hopefully the mitratus will have the same luck.

Awesome new fish! Are they agressive at all? And are you expecting any problems with your fasciatus not liking a similarly colored fish?

That is really surprizing since every racoon I've ever had including my existing fasciatus doesn't take anything from any other fish. Is there a significant size difference between the two?

Have you ever considered a Chaetodon rafflesi? I have a small one now and it has great personality, and zips around the tank almost as much as my collare. And like many B/Fs, I think they look better in person than in pics.

Great addition! By far my favorite obtainable butterfly, and a pretty easy one to keep for sure. Congrats on finding one that size.

I am disappointed in the aggression from the semi... such a beautiful fish. But the rafflesi is a good suggestion as an alternative if things don't improve.

Peter, et al.

Just so you know, I would put my semilarvatus right on par from an aggression stand point with my PBT. They sparred from the get go and have mellowed out now, but they both think they are the king of the tank. I was really surprised to see that behavior, I have only owned one other semi, and I don't recall that type of aggression.

My next butterfly will be a Mitratus or a pyramid, most likely the pyramid. I'll be sure to post a picture once I make the acquisition.

Thanks again for sharing your fish and tank with us.

Matt

Firstly, what a gorgeous fish!

Quick question though...I was thinking of getting a mitratus but have read elsewhere that they are aggressive towards any other members of the Raoaps complex. Do you think this is more myth or are you just going to deal with the problem if it comes up?

Thank you. I'm not sure. I'd like to think such small fish can coexist in an 8' long tank, but time will tell. I'm not one that enjoys forcing incompatible fish to live together, so if someone needs to be removed, so be it.

Beautiful fish Peter, one of my all time favorites. I've dreamed of owning one for years now.

Thanks. He picked at flakes and pellets today. But of course after that he got a full belly of mysis and a treat of a few live blackworms :)
